Show and Tell: Favorite Helping Hands Set
For this week’s Show and Tell, Will shares with us his new favorite set of helping hands for the workshop. We’ve all see those small third-hand tools sold at electronics and craft stores, but the best set is the one we’ve used at Adam’s shop. This precision tool is made for jewelers, and are great for big soldering projects too. (Thanks to B&H for providing the One Man Crew system for this video. Find out more about it here!)

I ran into these at a model railroas show a while back:
http://www.handi-hands.com/
They work very well and have a variety of tips on them.
As a professional jeweler I’ve been using GRS tools for years and everything they make is very high quality. The really nice feature of that tool is the way in which it mounts to a work bench and the other attachments that fit that mounting system. I have found that I use third hand tools way more when soldering electronics than when soldering with a torch.
Another very quick third hand tool you can make that costs almost nothing is to cut a “+” shaped through slot into a bench pin or piece of wood and then insert tweezers into the slot to hold small objects. As the tweezers are inserted into the slot they are forced close. Having the slot cut in the “+” shape allows you to insert the tweezers in the vertical or horizontal direction to make holding things in the proper orientation easier.
I think the hand-hands mentioned above are based on this instructable (http://www.instructables.com/id/Third-Hand-A-multi-use-helping-hand-for-electro/ ) ; I know Adafruit has a similar one for sale ( https://www.adafruit.com/products/2474 ).
I’m amused you made this video. Almost immediately after watching the Star Trek Chair one-day-build I searched for this. Little did I know had I just waited a bit you would have told me where to find it.
Awesome
