Adam Savage’s One Day Builds: Machinist Tool Drawers!
Adam’s been using his lathe a lot more recently while improving his machining skills, and has refined his workflow and toolset ecosystem around the machine. And to help him better retrieve the machining tools and accessories he wants in a timely way, Adam is going to build a machinist’s toolbox to store everything from flat and thread cutters to steel blanks and boring bars. And surprisingly, it’s the first of this kind of storage drawer he’s made as a One Day Build!

Adam – 3 comments in one!
1. I really like those time lapse sequences where the Swiss Army Knife is visible! Watching it do its thing at a rapid rate is absolutely fascinating.
2. You might want to keep an eye out for corrosion of the steel tooling you have in your drawers. The chemicals used to tan leather can affect metals placed in contact with it. That’s one reason felt is used – it’s known not to cause harm to steel.
3. Some of your drawers look like they’re sticking on their guides. Try rubbing wax from a candle on the guides and/or drawer slots.
Nice build!
What happened to “make the drawers deeper and put the slides on the drawers so they drawers can be pulled all the way out? Did you forget? or find some flaw in your original design?
I love these little shop infrastructure builds. They have been wonderful motivation to make improvements in my own life.
All that work then you print the contents with a paint pen, why not make it look more professional and use labels
