Adam Savage’s One Day Builds: Ghostbusters Ecto Goggles + Vacuum Former Rebuild!
Adam embarks on a build of the Ghostbusters Ecto Goggles prop, an essential part of his Ghostbusters cosplay. And to create the rare night-vision goggle eyepiece, Adam turns to vacuum forming and carves an accurate buck of the frame. But when Adam’s vacuum forming machine breaks down, Adam switches gears and rebuilds his vacuum former to restore this long-running tool to its former glory!

Adam,
do you take commissions?
My only knowledge of vacuforming comes from these videos and those on punished props, but couldn’t you use the original mask to make a vacuform shape on the inside, then add details with additive resins (sanded etc), fill it with plaster or whatever for solidity, then use that as a buck? I mean, machining is fun, but it’s a measurement and recreation step away from the original.
MakerBeam would make so much of this so much easier.
The correct version is, “when they make something idiot proof, someone will come along with an improved idiot”
Not sure if I’m more likely to get Adam’s attention here. I left some comments over on the YouTube video that highlights some safety concerns which I hope can be addressed in a follow up video. There are some big safety concerns with the electrical design on this that should be addressed.
