Welcome to The Rock – Still Untitled: The Adam Savage Project – 11/02/15

This week’s episode of Still Untitled was recorded in front of a live audience on Alcatraz! We chat with Adam about his escape from the island in an early episode of Mythbusters, and discuss some of our favorite heist and Bond films. Thanks to Nerd Nite, the Bay Area Science Festival, and the National Park Service for having us out on Alcatraz! We’ll be back next week with another episode from The Rock!

  1. Sorry guys, the best prison movie is The Shawshank Redemption. If it is on TV, I stop and watch it regardless of where it is at…

  2. Great ep. Wish I could’ve been there in person. I would’ve yelled out the correct title to the Bill Murray heist film – Quick Change

  3. The best prison film (actually one of the best films ever) is The Shawshank Redemption. That does not mean that I do not love The Rock

  4. Stepped away from the computer about an hour ago and after a while decided I’d watch an episode of Mythbuster on Netflix, the next episode in my queue turned out to be the escape from Alcatraz one 🙂

  5. Best prison movie: Two Way Stretch (Okay, not the best but rarely ever mentioned & one of Peter Sellers’ best).
    Best bank robbery: Rififi.

  6. Thanks Norm, loved it! Alcatraz is on my bucket list. one day maybe… and the Scottish was terrible, just letting them know 🙂

  7. Count me into the Shawshank Redemption group with The Rock coming in second. I was surprised that they did not mention the Birdman of Alcatraz. It is so rare for Tested to talk about any movies made prior to 1970.

  8. Heist movie: George Burns, Art Carney, Lee Strasberg | in “Going in Style.” 3 old geezers rob a bank in NYC (?), fly to Vegas for lunch, return and get arrested. All because they wore “fuzzy pusses” (glasses/nose/mustache) as their disguise, and one of the 3 puts his on when they’re sitting on a park bench in NY to amuse a kid, and a the kid speaks up about it after he sees the ‘same man’ in the news footage from the security cameras that recorded the heist.

  9. Yep, shawshank redemption #1 every time. I can’t believe that one’s not the very first thing that springs to the trios mind when thinking of great prison movies 🙂

  10. I visited USA and SF for the first time last month. I visited Alcatraz (at night) and I also road a cable car. Didn’t want to pay 7 dollars for riding cable car because I didn’t think it was worth it, but I got overruled. It was okay but if I visit again I wont ride again I think.

Also I made time to visit your show. It was great. Castro Theater was beautiful.

  11. I was there in September. Fantastic place. Wish that we knew that you can stay as long as you want as we would have not got the last boat out of the day and spent more time there. A night visit sounds even better, anything that creeps the other half out is more fun for me.

As for the cable car, yeah, they’re expensive. I did enjoy going up and down the hill while hanging onto the outside. But if you’re a visitor and get one of the MUNI passes, it’s valid on the cable cars too. We really recommend the MUNI passes if you are going to travel around San Francisco a bit. 7 day pass for $35 is well worth it.

Best prison movie – Hmmm. My list includes Shawshank Redemption, Cool Hand Luke, Chicken Run, Green Mile and my personal favourite… The Great Escape.

  12. My favourite heist film… Raiders Of The Lost Ark

    Favourite prison film…. Cube

Favourite Sean Connery film… Dragonheart! LOL Seriously, The Untouchables.

Excellent p-cast, lads! Maybe ya’s aughta have live audiences more often 😉

  13. I’m a premium member and local in the Bay Area. How do we find out about these events, assuming they are open to the public? It seems like this even and the Martian screening were both things that Tested members attended.

  14. Oh come on. Heist movies!! The Italian Job (Original is the best). Ronin. The Great Train Robbery. The Brain. And not to forget the Ocean 11 movies (including the original). As for prison escape movies The Great Escape (ok, it’s a PoW camp escape, but it’s a damn awesome movie).

There was Birdman of Alcatraz, based on a true story. Not an escape movie, and mostly not set in Alcatraz, but it is there for part of the movie.

I know I’m forgetting a ton of heist/ prison escape movies, but those are the ones of the top of my head.
