Hey Guys,
I just watched Ex Machina and it totally blew my mind. I know it came out a while ago, but I would love for you to talk about it and how it pertains to Artificial Intelligence. I feel there are a lot of similarities between Ex Machina and Blade Runner in the sense of, can artificial intelligence have it’s own thoughts. I would love to hear what you have to say about it (Also it won best visual effects at the Oscars, so there’s plenty of material for you to talk about.) If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it, and I would love if you talked about it on the show.
Thanks,
Jakob
Liev Schreiber in mixed nuts is a must see
I have watched all of the episodes of ‘Vinyl’ so far. I don’t know if I like it. I do know that it deserves better than it got in this podcast.
First, it takes place in the mid-70s. Not 1980. Not the early 70s.
One significant thing that Will left out is that one of the executive producers (and occasional writers’ room participant) is Mick Jagger, who has a unique perspective on that period. Also, Jagger’s son is part of the cast.
After listening to the podcast, I wonder if Will understands what he is watching. In ‘Vinyl’, Terence Winter does something similar to what he did with “Boardwalk Empire”; he tells a guy’s story and mixes in actual historical events from that period. The main character runs a record label and there was a lot going on in that business then (glam, prog rock, funk, beginnings of punk), so there is a lot of story material to draw from. And, since it is in NYC, Warhol and The Factory are featured as well.
Not saying that one should like it, but at least criticize it for what it is.
I haven’t watched the spoilercast yet…. I really liked Sportlight and The Big Short, but I would have awarded Best Picture to Room in a heartbeat.
Ok If you’re going to bash religions to be fair you can’t leave out Islam. Islam not only condones pedophilia but encourages it. Why doesn’t someone expose this monstrous over site? Their leader Muhammad was an admitted pedophile and glorified it. Is it any wonder that the religion is so messed up?
Adam You should find this video satisfying! https://vimeo.com/141145133
The work draws inspiration from Theo Jansen’s kinetic sculptures (StrandBeests), The minimalist desert landscapes that stage the subjects within many of Salvador Dali’s surrealist paintings and the sails and rigging from Chinese junk ships.
I HATE trump but I’m 100% with you on the muslim front! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwluC6GoKLE
Can we just rename this podcast, “Adam Savage’s Book Club and Spoiler Casts”?
A: Sorry I have not had coffee yet.
B: Sorry it just seams that every other TIOAT is a SpoilerCast and it’s getting rather old.
I might be posting this on the wrong episode- I listened to 2 back to back in the car the other day, and I think it was this one where Will mentioned he was part of the lost generation (as am I, born in 1980) so he must be a similar age to myself. This reminded me of this article that a friend shared on Facebook https://medium.com//fuck-you-i-m-not-a-millennial-e92e653ceb39#.6wefihg6r
it’s talks about this very thing. and at the end the author presents his version of the generational timeline.
