I’m getting the impression that #8 fencing wire is the New Zealand equivalent of duct tape 🙂
OMG! I am freaking out again! My two favourite “worlds” colliding again!
This is the time of the year when I re-watch every single appendix and commentary of all six films (LOTR and Hobbit) as Richard says I literally feed off this mood, it fuels my own creativity and has done so for over a decade!
Ah to work for an employer who understands all of this! The using people’s skills and developing them. Sigh.
I do not get moved very much and this is the first time I have commented here, but I must admit, hearing Richard Taylor speak about his philosophy of how to develop his company, his staff, and the world overall really moved me. As I was listening, I actually started to tear up because the company I work for is almost exactly the opposite of WETA. Thank you for setting up this podcast with Richard. It allowed me to find the energy to come back from my lunch break and face my workplace for another day.
What a gracious host. I don’t know if he used the words, but it sounds like he takes a values based approach to his business, valuing his people and their development over the bottom line as his first priority.
I like that Richard has such a progressive attitude towards training people. Some business people question the logic of it. “What happens when you train people, and then they leave?” The best reply I’ve ever heard to this question is, “What happens if you don’t train people, and they stay?”
I’m still convinced that Richard Taylor is an Alan Tudyk character
Such an inspiring man. Wonder how open he is to job applicants from the other side of the planet?
Love this! Richard Taylor you are an amazing person and a credit to the human race!!!!!
What an unbelievable guest – this felt more like a man reading an engaging story than a conversation.
I have the pleasure of owning one miniature model of Minas Tirith from LOTR, that Weta made for the Limited Edition DVD of Return of the King, and the amount of detail on that miniature is simply astounding. So I can understand why Taylor has a soft spot for miniatures.
