I love that Wizards of the Coast is totally muddying the waters about M:TG with their own games.
The Plainswalkers games aren’t the only Magic games online. There is still Magic Online which is totally the same M:TG, buying decks and booster packs for the pc. Think about this, Is buying digital cards that are worth nothing any different than buying physical cards that are *really* worth nothing anyway? Since the rarity is manufactured, they are able to replicate the real-world rarity of cards in the digital format. WotC have been really smart about it, if you collect a whole set you can then get a token for physical cards, AND you can sell digital cards for real money(WotC doesn’t offer an *official* way to resell digital cards, but they allow it). Im pretty sure a lot of people have made the switch to playing Magic Online instead of playing the game with physical cards, its so much easier to have a nice selection of decks and cards without having binders and boxes. Not to mention card protectors, and all the other stuff down the physical card rabbit hole. As someone who plays magic online i facepalmed quite hard when they discussed paper cards vs digital cards.
