You have mentioned this a few times now, and as someone that recently was jobless for about a year.
There really is infinite entertainment.
I am very interested in learning how many resources Google actually allocated to Google Reader. I can’t imagine it was that difficult to manage the service. I am really gonna miss that service. NewsBlur is a close replacement, but not close enough for me to be happy.
I didn’t think the GS4 event was as bad as its being made out to be, but I’ll tell you what, my wife cannot wait until it comes out and it was solely because of the performance they put on to show off the features. In general I’ve read a lot of complaints about it on websites/forums, but in talking to people in real life that have watched it, I found that it was well received.
Does Oculus Rift work as just a display without the motion controls? I just want a massive screen and don’t want to move my head around in my seat.
I guess I’m one of those hardcore RSS users that drinks a river from a pipe…but it’s my pipe, my dam, my river. I’m not interested in outsourcing my time/what I care about to a social network. I gave IFTTT + Pocket a try and boy does that suck. I’ve since switched to Feedly and it’s pretty good.
Do you think following you or Norm on Twitter is a pretty good representation of the content I can expect to see on Tested.com? Not trolling, just curious.

At that price it needs to at least have a dlna client if not having every bit of functionality that an Apple TV does and then an sdk on top of that.

side note : I have a ten year old and an 8 year old with ipod touches (they bought them, not me) and we set them both up with itunes account (just fake the age part) with no credit card so that they can get itunes cards as presents and buy 99,000 versions of “cupcake maker” (eyeroll)
Also, I am a HUGE Google Reader fan/user, so this announcement literally hit me over the head with a sledgehammer – feels like a girlfriend broke up with me via text message by just sending me a picture of middle finger and then not returning any of my calls.
Feedly is for people who don’t really “use” Google Reader – if you want to keep track of FIVE websites, then this is your jam. Else, keep shopping. NewsBlur on their own page quotes a TOTAL (TOTAL!!!) of 10,000 users, half paid, half free so that doesn’t seem like someone I want to make a commitment with (sorry, popularity contests suck) and then there’s NetVibes which seems more like an enterprise tool (I thought I was on the wrong site initially) that is also usable by individuals for free.
So for serious Google Reader users NetVibes seems like the only viable option. I’m still holding out hope that this is all a bad dream and I will wake up and Google will still love me (sob)
Only 10k users for Newsblur? meh, ok. I’ve been using it for over a year, and even paid for it (and I’m extremely cheap!). I tried several other RSS apps when Reader became unusable crap a year ago, and Newsblur was the best IMO. Simple, fast, nice list view. That’s all I want. Maybe the low number of users mean it will die? I dunno, but I’ll risk it for now. (btw 5k users at $2/month seems like decent income to me, for what I think is a one man shop..)
To mitigate the “hose issue” I just curated my feeds a bit. Got rid of the NYTimes main feed, and instead added individual sections I care about (World news, tech, science etc. Yey, no more 200/day baseball crap..). Hopefully this will help. You can also “train” newsblur to focus on stories you an interested in, but I haven’t really explored that enough.

I’m finding most of these relatively positive. No, I did not kickstart the Pebble, but I’ve been really interested in it.
I seem to use RSS differently than a lot of people. I don’t use it as a news source (other than following Bleeding Cool). I’ll go to Gizmodo or Boing Boing or The Verge daily to see what they post if I want news. I use Google Reader to follow infrequently updating sites. Webcomics and podcasts and infrequent blog posters and such. I don’t know of a better way of keeping up with things that only pop up once a week/month/year. Things like Twitter don’t work because it will be one point of information that will be lost in the noise where as it sits in Google Reader until I, well, read it.

ah, dead zone. that’s the phrase i couldn’t think of. yeah, arma does allow you to turn you head, but it’s a hold-down/toggle that switches mouse control from aiming to head movement. so oculus would work really well here to just allow head movement with the goggles, and have a dead zone for aiming + movement with the mouse!
also apparently tf2 has 7 modes of oculus control. misread the engadget report about the modes, but still agree with them that it’s not a game that’s designed for “exploring”. can’t wait to try it because right now, we just don’t know how it’ll turn out.
I use reader as an alert service combined with iGoogle (which is also being killed) to let me know when new blog posts have been published, but then I go to the actual site to read the article. I like having something else tell me when new content is available.
