When it comes to earthquakes I will never for the the we had here in 91 on my 8th birthday. Watching the cabinets open and glasses fly across the room almost horizontal. in erratic up and down motion. Which would then be a week or so of large after shocks. The fun of a 7.1 :X . I live on marshy ground, as well. Which is mixture of wet sand and Clay. So you get an amplification effect.
Though about two years ago now we had a 6.1 that was extremely close. Which is the first time I have ever seen hung pictures flip themselves upside down on the picture wire. As well as my old CRT tv decided to fly across the room about 10′ or so. It survived the 7.1 and aftershocks. But this time It died.

You don’t need to be a ‘Prepper’ to be prepared for an earthquake..
If your tape isn’t sticking to the printrbot platform is cause the surface is oily. Which can either be from the initial machinging or finger grease. Give it a quick wash with some isoprophyl alcohol and then put the tape back down, and you shouldn’t have any problems.
Any update on The Great Sticker Trade of 2014?
I live in Texas where an Ice Chest is as much a status symbol as anything. A company called Yeti make ice chests that cost an absurd amount of money.

I’m in the South. Same here. Amazing the people that drop cash on those to use them like you would a normal cooler. If you aren’t going on an outdoor adventure for days at a time, I don’t really get it. I mean even at a music fest or something they are somewhat practical, but it just boggles the mind for an everyday cooler.. just sitting around for a cookout or something.
EDIT: Also, I think Norm may regret his driving to Seattle decision. Maps says its a 12 hour drive. Did one of those last month. No fun.
The earthquake was pretty unsettling, by far the strongest I’ve felt in my four years here.
I immediately went to the doorway to get out of the way of my bookshelves in case they’d fall into the room. My roommate and his two houseguests all woke up and were freaking out a bit, but they are from Taiwan so they are a lot more used to seismic activity than I am. :p
It was interesting seeing fitness-tracker data showing how people woke up and moved around when the quake hit. There was a massive spike, and the amount of data exactly matched the distance from the epicenter.

With regards to backups, I’ve personally been using Crashplan for a few years (I may have mentioned this before). I chose it because it supported Linux, Mac & Windows and allowed me to set my own encryption key for the data so that only I had it. I also bought the family plan, which allows for unlimited backups on up to 10 computers, so I shared the account with the rest of my immediate family, and since everyone is able to generate their own encryption key, we’re all good with the shared account.
If you’re not already heavily invested into Dropbox, take a look at SpiderOak as a possible alternative if you don’t need to share out files with a lot of people. Though, they’re still at the $10/mo per 100 GB rate. So far I like it over dropbox, but I’m also not syncing data between a lot of devices right now, so my use case is vastly different than yours.

the disposable styrofoam coolers are pretty decent indeed, a friend of mine actually built a wooden box with a lid on hinges and all, and he has been using it for years, just replacing the styrofoam whenever it would get damaged. it’s super durable too so he uses it as a seat/chair at outdoor parties xD (he’s a like 450lbs guy)

About the cooler -Kickstarter. It seems that kickstarter has become the TVShop of this generation.
Well “back in the day” my dad and I called up IBM and asked them if we could put a hard drive in one of their original “portable PC. Came with dual 5 1/4 floppies, the guys had no idea if that would even work, figured it would crash the HDD unless I parked it every time I turned it off. It was a massive 30 MEG and we even tossed a CGA card in, I had a 4 “color” amber monitor, I was ROCKIN! Mind this was in 1987. Never hardware crashed, never filled it up, probably reformatted that sucker a couple of times never failed. Finally got rid of it 2003, still booted and ran “flawlessly” on DOS 6.1 (I think). No y2k bug for me. Sadly still prefer the version of Quicken I used back then, clean and simple, did everything I needed, and except for the undo button in Word really haven’t seen any improvements in it either.
On the wireless topic, my brother gave me some advice….spend a little bit more and get a commercial grade high powered router….I just got an Amped Wireless 20000G and have been very happy with it. We have a duplex and everybody on the property has been using it with great success.
