You’d think this kind of panic would only happen with earthquake-related stuff.
We don’t get a lot of rain here. When this amount comes at one time, the Bay Area just isn’t built or prepared for it.
Hubsan do a good entry level RTF FPV nano quad – the X4 H107D. About $150. Has a built in LCD screen in the transmitter. Not amazing camera quality, but you’d be able to probably tinker with it. The fact that it’s been engineered to fly and carry the camera weight means you should be able to strip the shell right back and put in a better quality FPV rig once you’re more proficient in flying. You’d be able to get a good 3D printer and print a bunch of parts, either by your design or from Thingiverse.
The storm was way over-hyped in my area. Yes it rained a lot, but no more than the storm last week.
It normally takes me about an hour to get to work, and today it took just over 30 minutes, it was wonderful.
I feel Will has turned into the thing he hates and why they started their own site. (“tired of snarky tech coverage from people who seemed to hate everything”) Or maybe it’s just some products really are that bad sometimes.
Personally I don’t mind that kind of tone as long as they have good buying advice. I hate places that seem way too enthusiastic for an obviously average product.
I think some of this is a result of testing early-stage tech a lot more than they used to.
A lot of the in-depth videos end up being summed up as “good idea, but don’t buy this yet” or “shaky idea, awful execution” or “really cool idea, really cool tech, but do not buy this unless you are prepared to spend two weeks tuning it to get the results you want”… and also “this is not a tablet, or a laptop” or “this is an Amazon phone, don’t buy it”.
We already got the northern brunt of the storm that is currently flooding the Bay Area. Apart from a few downed trees/tree limbs, we seemed to have weathered through it with relative ease. Of course, we get these storms every year around this time of year, so it’s nothing out of the normal for these parts of the Pacific Northwest..
As far as Alex’s question about Norm’s recent smugness about recent Apple products, just go back and watch one of your latest Apple iPhone 6 Plus videos. It should be fairly obvious as to what he is referring too..
I wonder if that other Will Smith would have any rights to wrest that Twitter name. It being Will’s real name seems like famous Will would have to compromise. I wonder what the rules are on that.
My tangential connection to mild geek/nerd fame: My daughter’s math teacher is Steve Weibe, one of the subjects of “King of Kong”.
The answer is a flat out no.
Is anybody surprised that an engineer went 12 years without a shower?
I believe he does. My daughter says that he talks about Donkey Kong all the time in class. My family and his live in the same community outside of Redmond. We were at his house many years ago (I think it was shortly after the film came out) for a community 4th of July party and I remember that he had a Donkey Kong machine in his garage – I can’t imagine him parting with such a beast.
Not in the slightest! 🙂
You don’t think about BlackBerry 10 because you don’t think it is relevant?
What BlackBerry is doing is becoming a game changer. The QNX platform that it is built on is very powerful.
Ford has adopted it for Sync in the their cars, Porsche, and Mercedes also.
The newest device, the Passport is almost violently pulling “use to be BlackBerry users” back to the very secure arms of BlackBerry.
You don’t have to talk about it all the time because I know you and Norm favor your iOS and Android devices, but I would definitely look into it occasionally.
I chalked it up to you getting older and having a child. You don’t have time in your life for bad products anymore. It might be fun if you guys hired Gordon Mah Ung to be the older more curmudgeony guy.
Look behind Will at 57.56 onwards.. at the MAN who crawls along and then looks in the window ! before climbing down into the garden !? Who ever gave Will the heads up well done!
Scary!
Edit: Oh wait .. a neighbour fixing a leaky roof ?
I am sure this has probably been asked/suggested before but…
Can we get a Tested calendar?? You know, all the maker, geek, tech and other great events we should look out for.
Also, a list of Tested approved websites?
Loved your response. Techshop is a great model to work off of, hoping they keep expanding, especially the mobile shops that can visit schools and other groups.
Norm really needs to get a non-mechanical keyboard, or at least one without (presumably) MX Blue switches, if he’s going to be typing while recording. I love mechanical keyboards as much as the next guy and own 4 different ones (though none with MX Blues), but hearing it on the podcast is really obnoxious.
Which boom arm/adaptor are you using to mount your Blue Snowball?
Is that Sasquatch behind Will at about 53:45
