Episode 38 – Turkey Day Q&A – 11/24/2010
In honor of Thanksgiving in the US, Norm, Gary, and Will sat down to answer all of YOUR questions. That’s right, it’s an all question & answer episode. Want more? The gang also talked turkey about the Samsung Tab, the iOS 4.2 update, Airplay, the Boxee Box, and Thanksgiving traditions. Happy Thanksgiving guys!
BOOMSHAKALAKA, this’ll get me through my holidays
coolio
YESSSss. I love you guys for this <3 Hope ya'll have a fantastic holiday! I'm gonna download this and save it for when I am cooking tomorrow!

Oh podcast, you are better than stuffing.
God damn you Americans getting turkey day twice a year (Christmas & Thanksgiving).
Turkey Day Q&A? Awesomeness from by the Bay tonight before I hit the hay! This will be great, if I may say.
I’ll be here all week.
I do ham on Christmas.
Really? We always have turkey (although Goose has always been one of those things we’ve talked about having) and ham/beef on boxing day.
Yes. Turkey for sure on Thanksgiving day and Ham on Christmas. Easter is also Ham. All other holidays are really whatever food nothing really planned.
Apparently I’ve got minecraft fame? Cool. To be fair most of the super awesome stuff on the minecraft server is rallier, I have built a few cool things (like sky island) but not nearly as much as rallier.
Anyways, thanks for answering my question. I can’t wait to see how the site changes as you guys get the whole database thing worked out. I also had a weird “it’s a small world” moment when someone sent in a question from Michigan State, I’m about an hour away from there at Central Michigan. I forgot to add in an interesting fact about my town though.
As for the Black Friday question, no amount of savings will get me to go out to a store on Black Friday. Not only are the crowds completely bat shit, but usually there are good deals online on Black Friday (Even though its not Cyber Monday yet) They aren’t always as good as the deals at the stores, but there is usually a few that are good enough that the slightly higher price is worth not having to go out to the store.
Thanks for answering my question!
A $250 iPad would get me out on Black Friday.
Last week, Christians. This week, Giant Bomb. At least Gary is an equal opportunity offender. And I actually had to start the podcast over to hear if Gary actually said “Let’s start the show”. Clever editing there.
And as much I would hate for the Netflix people to lose their jobs, it’s not my duty as a consumer to buy a product or service just to keep someone employed. I buy something that’s a value to me. From the horse and buggy to the US Postal Service, technology evolves and industries become obsolete. I’m not going to buy a book of stamps and stop paying my bills online.
OK, so Question of the Week: What would it take for me battle the Black Friday crowd? Hmmm. It would have to be something really expensive I’ve done some extensive research on that I can’t or won’t buy online and is heavily discounted, like an HDTV. Or black market diamonds.
Answer to the black Friday question: I’m not going out, but will be buying one of those PlayStation 3 bundles online somewhere.
Holy craping shit! 2 1/2 hours of podcasting?
I love thanksgiving.
Norm’s right, complementary colours are opposite on the colour wheel!
A Will, Norm and Ana Kinect Fitness Challenge! Different body types, different genders. Let’s see if these “games” are equivalent to a personal trainer. To reiterate, LET’S DO THIS!
Solution to how to cook a turkey properly: barbeque it. Maybe it’s just a weird Southern thing, but we’ve always barbequed turkeys.
Mouth pipetting? wow that’s old school. No one does that anymore, i guess people kept sucking in too much.
This is my favorite episode.
Great podcast this week!
On the topic of Netflix facilities, they got the sorting equipment at very low cost from the US Postal Service, as they were replaced with newer equipment. The equipment works well for them because it only has to sort one size and shape of envelope. This equipment is the kind of stuff that will eventually take over the job my mom does at the Post Office, sorting the mail and parcels. The APC’s(Automated Postal clerk/center or something), the machines in the lobby, will eventually take over the other part of my mom’s job, working at the front window. My mom’s office had 30 clerks sorting letters when she started there nearly 26 years ago, they now have 3 clerks who not only sort letters, but also stuff PO Boxes, work the window when they need more bodies up there, and throw parcels. My mom now fills at least 2-3 positions on a daily basis, and it is impossible to get the mail out on time with their staff. The Postal Service is constantly offering people early retirement and a retiring bonus of about $15k, but lower percentage of one’s salary during retirement. When people die or retire, they are not replaced.
Great podcast. That black friday event is crazy. I live in Canada so that doesn’t happen here, but I love to watch the videos of when the store doors are opened. With those sales it really comes down to survival of the fittest.
I envy your text tone Will!
Mama doesn’t like hot stuff.
we had beef for Thanksgiving once(heresy, I know) last year we were really busy in the morning helping to feed the homeless Thanksgiving meals in downtown Long Beach, so we had microwave mashed potatoes and microwaved Butterball deep fried turkey from Sam’s Club
We generally do too. We bbq pretty big birds, but then again…we have a pretty big-ass barbeque because we use it so much and in such great quantities. Us Texans do love us some barbequed everything. Regular turkey is way too bland to me in comparison to mesquite smoked turkey on the bbq.
Also, upon relistening to this again for background noise I had a chuckle at the beginning at the line “They’re not complementary, they’re exactly opposite!” in regards to red and green. When it comes to colors, complementary does mean opposite. Them being opposite on the color wheel is what makes them so complementary, along with blue and orange as well as violet and yellow. Not nitpicking or critiquing…it just amused me.

lol I like the ending with Gary.
Correction on the Netflix piece..We have 4 Roku devices (Awesome STB’S) 2 at home and 2 in another 2 states with nephews at college. We have 2 dvd out at a time. With netflix blessing (we Called) we can have up to 6 devices streaming anywhere in the usa under one account but only one streaming queue..Nephews just use the search and ui on the roku box and instant stream. .As the rep told me “netflix does not care where you are streaming “…Take Care
