Now about that Motorola Atrix. I agree with Ana by not getting why you guys are so gaga over that. I don’t know anyone who wants to do full computing on a phone, if only they could attach a keyboard to it. It’s just not practical. A smart phone and laptop are two totally separate experiences. Just get a netbook or tablet.

As far as finding what the tribe values we have to look at our history with Native American Indians by evaluating them. As an example through observation and discussions the Native American Indians valued shiny things like the beads and shiny bits of copper. We have to keep in mind what is important to us (beyond the basics) is not important to them.
It’s very interesting knowing why some cultures can be so far behind in technology.
As far as our gain it would be knowledge of the tribe culture.

yeah i lived in NYC for eight years and what I DIDN’T say on the podcast was I actually make all the same complaints about SF when talking to NYers. When it comes to cities, I am a major snob/hater/jerkass! It’s a fault, but one I have no plans to fix >:)
I think the question about the Wii meets DS was more of a, when you pick it up it plays like a DS, but you can also just hook it to your TV and have it operate like a Wii. I could be totally wrong. But yeah. Still I don’t think it would be.

I hate Kraft singles. I pretty much hate all American cheese… it is the worst kind of cheese. It’s like cheese flavored orange slices of rubber.
The statement about how you can’t get love through a computer screen makes me sadface. I know I should think nothing of it buuut… haha. I wouldn’t say it’s “not as good as”… just that’s it’s not the same. When the love is mutually expressed through video it’s great, though it’s not quite the same as experiencing it in person. Sadly for some people (myself included) it’s the only option sometimes.
Now people going online to pay people to act like they love them or even remotely like them? Yeah that’s not really that great.

Having grown up in the North West I’ve spent plenty of time between Portland and Seattle, I found that portion of the show kinda funny. Typical stereotypes aside… you totally forgot to add wine to your list of coffee and beer, haha. Also Portlandia is a helluva show, I dig it.
On the Q&A portion I was surprised to find out you guys have been slacking on the display tech and that super video producer had no input. I thought if you’re editing video, color accuracy mattered enough to know and possibly prefer not to edit your work on a TN panel. Or have the need for a monitor that can work in an extended gamut color space.
Some comments about TFT in general made smile and exclaim: “That doesn’t exist Will!” like after hearing “12 bit dithered” as a spec for TN Film panels.
You sounded confused so here is a quick brush up on color depth and dithering: A TN Film panel is 6-bit color depth (18-bit color) and can only produce 262k colors so the manufacturer will use a Frame Rate Control (FRC) algorithm aka “dithering” to boost how many colors the matrix can display. This will simulate up to 16.2 or 16.7 million colors on a TN panel. Basically two color tones flash rapidly to give you the impression there is a third tone. 8-bit color depth (24-bit color) panels (VA, PVA, IPS) produce that 16.7million without FRC. 8-bit panels can also use FRC, like the Dell U2711. Its panel from LG is advertised as 10-bit. But it’s not, it uses an 8-bit with A-FRC to support 10bit. Though I don’t think the display port even supports a 10bit source. Beyond 8bits is insane already for desktop use, if you’re doing graphic work where banding is evident on 8-bit hoo boy…that is some really high end graphics work or imagery.
The general suggestion of “IPS” for most multimedia use is a good answer especially given the guys question. Without a doubt the best 27″ you can buy is the Dell U2711. I wish they did one that was just e-IPS or something, 8-bit, no10-bit, no 12-bit internal processor, and not even bother with supporting extended gamut for a lower cost model. Everyone’s on a blitz for lower cost IPS monitors, I think it would be a hit like the NEC EA231WMI.
gary and i had a conversation this weekend about this week’s science talk topic, and concluded that the modern day equivalent of columbus giving native americans blankets with smallpox would be us giving these people the internet with 4chan.
4chan only works on societies where the ease of survival has reached levels where people have literally nothing to do with their time. i think most tribal societies would be like “uh huh, nice picture of a cat, i have to go farm now, later”
What? I know your trying to make a joke. But I think your comparison to an infectious disease that has devastated human population through out history is terrible.
Any part of the aftermath, of the Columbian Exchange is not comparable to 4chan. Your conclusion that giving the tribe 4chan would be so horrible that its the equivalent of a smallpox epidemic is crazy! I have no idea how you came to that idea. Also Columbus did not give the Native American’s blankets with smallpox. That specific event happens much later in history.
