Podcast - This Is Only a Test
Episode 74 – Before the Fortress – 7/14/2011
On this week’s episode, Norm is disappointed by Apple, Will gets ready to play some games, and Matt mis-pronounces a common word. All that, plus the latest on Spotify in the US, Netflix’s price change, AT&T’s LTE service, Windows 8 and Xbox games, Amazon’s Android tablet, and another resplendent episode of fake outtakes. Enjoy!

Hm, at the current moment I would like a decent Community Night to occur before we start expanding. Though, maybe we could arrange PC friday, PS3 saturday, and 360 sunday. But I’m getting ahead of myself. I would like to do it trust me, but let’s see the turn out for all I know this could be a disaster, let’s hope not 🙂 .

Has Braga moved to SF?
yes now i have more than enough podcast to listen to while waiting for midnight
Spotify rules and so does this fantastic podcasto!
This has become my number 2 podcast after Giantbomb. So good.
Fixed. Seriously though I look forward to this more than the bombcast now. Also Matt is on!! He always has some great contributions.
false alarm.
When they started talking about there “limited streaming selection of nettflix” I was just thinking man Matt your a better man than I. They wouldn’t last an hour with Canadian Netflix. ALSO HE SAID HOUSE.
Gingham is always casual.
He’s there for the month of July
From what I’ve heard that’s pretty average. Maybe a bit better than average, definitely only a day or two.
And there will be an iPhone 4G. Didn’t AT&T just announce 4G? And there are rumors of a bigger screen on the same form factor. Sounds a hell of a lot like a perfect storm to me.
Also, the OS pricing thing is total shit. Apple throws them out constantly, Windows stuff is always pretty major and spaced out a lot. it’s been getting closer and closer, but it’s still a lot more time. It’s not comparable. Stop bringing it up Garry!
Woot my question was played on the podcast! Sorry about the bad quality; I will get better. Thanks again for the help.
Like the keyboard talk…have a mechanical one myself (what you guys talked about without actually using the term lol), Das uses Cherry co switches but does the body itself. Have a Leopold FC200r with Brown switches (no clicky sound unless you depress all the way).
“Jenna Haze is from here. You know who that is, especially you Gary Whitta.”
“…Is she from 30 Rock?”
HAHA, no guys. She is not from 30 Rock.
…More like 30 rock hard boners, amiright.
Also, I was totally one of those medics healing him and following him everywhere lol
Anybody else get weird hitching when they were ymtalking about spotify? I’m redownloading and will try again in the morning to see if my download was just fucked up, since I’m now home on wifi instead of 3G.
I didn’t even realize what Braga said until they went off on it. DON’T LET THEM CHANGE YOU!
I just watched that wolf shirt video and Its needs to be said, Gary has lost a gargantuan amount of weight. I’m now inspired to get into shape myself.
He’s living with Norm for a bit of summer
I feel as though choosing between the Bomb cast and This is only a Test would be like having a favorite child. If only I could find five comparable podcasts for the rest of the week.
Am I missing something from 30 Rock, because everyone seems to like it except for me. I watched the first season and couldn’t get into it.
just for the summer.
Fuck yeah, Bastille Day!
Isn’t he still in school? Probably just here for a working summer.
I believe he has finished school and he now freelances at a couple Canadian news orgs
Haus of Braga.
Great podcast. I’m also glad that there was less Klout talk as I think I’ve had my fill.
I disagree that summer tv is shit….. breaking bad, futurama, and louie alone make it not shit (and guilty pleasure true blood :P)
also will mentioned his bad lighting for kinect, unless kinect needs to do things like facial recognition, or scanning and item you are holding lighting isnt an issue, I normally do things in dim lighting.
I had a similar problem with the caller that had the FPS problem on his laptop, only mine involved the framerate being throttled when plugged in. Turns out it was a problem with my ATI card. There’s a setting in Catalyst Control Center called PowerPlay, which acts kinda like SpeedStep and will adjust video card performance in favour of increased battery life. Once I turned that off everything worked fine, so if the caller has an ATI card in his laptop he might want to also look into that.
Also, Portal music/sound effects make fantastic ringtones.
If you search for CCC in Windows it should pop up. I’m not entirely certain where it gets installed, but usually there’s a folder for it in your start menu. If all else fails you can always try updating your version of Catalyst. The PowerPlay settings should be the second to last option under the graphics tab in the latest version.
I’ve been liking Spotify so far, but I know what I like and I haven’t been searching and streaming a lot of music because most of what I want to listen to is already in my collection.
So Garry been talking about his diet a lot lately, and I’m curious about it. It seems–from what I’ve heard from him–that he’s cut back on the carbs drastically and has focused on the proteins and working out. Could Gary clarify this, just interested because he’s talked about it a lot.
So does anyone know if I drop the DVD portion of Netflix, do I still lose the ability to stream on multiple devices simultaneously? This is a must have for my house.
– Good for you on turning your diet around, you have done your research and are doing the right things. Have you tried the grass fed beef yet? I have been eating a lot of that for the past two years and it’s become a staple in my diet. Now that you just have to turn your workout regiment around, get off the treadmill a couple a days a week and do some weight training for strength and yoga for flexibility (will save you from in the gym injuries). Say away from Crossfit, just figured I would throw that in there because it is really popular at the moment. To throw out some suggestions; starting strength by mark rippetoe and power yoga by bryan kest.
As a Kiwi I’m familiar with the accent bullying you get from your larger neighbour we get this shi*t from Aussies all the time. Just because they have the majority they think their twang is better?.. I actually prefer the Canadian accent to the US, sounds a little more real, bit classier LOL. Lets get ‘oat’ of here!
2013 was pretty good.
