Podcast - This Is Only a Test
Episode 419 – Quadcast – 10/12/17
Will joins us this week for a special quadcast! Because we missed recording last week, there’s lots to catch up on, including Google’s Pixel 2 announcement event, New York Comic Con, Elon’s Mars colony dreams, and the release of the SNES Classic. Plus, Norm talks about the Westworld experience he went to in New York. (Recorded Tuesdsay so Oculus Connect 4 news will be discussed next week!)
Oh man. So excited for this episode! WILL!
You mentioned the Last Jedi Trailer but not the Chernobyl like meltdown of Fandango’s servers…it took a half hour to get the pre-order tickets. The I’ll add this little nugget, There was a Movie Poster give away to Fandango VIP members , 2 days after the tickets were purchased Fandango sent a email with a link to redeem your free poster, just enter the promo code. Needless to say they forgot to include the promo code in the email and 4 hours later another email was sent , this time with the code.
BRUTAL !
Really Will… JIF!👿!
Do you upload jriphics to the internet. How fast is your jraphics card. I’m ashamed of you 😦
This and Will’s Thought Experiment brought to mind something fascinating about Star Wars… there is a Russian/English podcast called “Slow Russian Podcast” by a 30 something Siberian teacher, and she had an entire episode about a conversation regarding Star Wars with her husband. If I understand her correctly… In the Soviet Union, Star Wars was officially banned… until around 1989 / 1990. So there is, in the former Soviet countries, an entire generation of people whose childhood Star Wars experience was in fact at least a decade after the rest of the world.
So I wonder… is there something different about parents nowadays showing their kids Star Wars… versus an entire country full of kids experiencing Star Wars upon theatrical release when there had never been anything like it in their culture before. In other words, is there some kind of Emotional or Psychological form of Relativity, where I can have a child-like enthusiasm for something that came out when I was a kid, with someone in another culture who also experienced that, even though it was ten years later.. .and is that distinct from kids watching Star Wars randomly because their parents show it to them nowdays? Doesn’t your elders showing you something cool make it a different experience than something your whole generation drags their parents to go see?
What is the difference between Musks Mars orbitals and Buzz Aldrin’s Mars cycler Tech?
I’ve seen the first two episodes of Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams and can confirm that it’s pretty great. The first episode, particularly, is one of the most intriguing sci-fi worlds I’ve seen presented on television.
Always nice to see/hear Will come back.

Hi Norm, Re: something you guys mentioned in the podcast: If you need a voice kit for your trooper costume, let me know. I’ll have some of my ROM/FX kits ready in about 4 weeks time and would be happy to help you out 🙂 Link to my site in my profile.
Can I make a request? In the ‘What have you been testing’ segment, can you say the name of the product after you review it. I often miss the name of the product, only to hear a great review and think that sounds great, I wonder what it was called.
As a note
regarding the rules for the Nobel Prize.
The rules
was set in the Testament of Alfred Nobel and is therefore his last will. At
least in Sweden changing some ones last will post mortem is not an easy task no
matter how unmodern the rules may be.
