  1. Danica blew my mind with that Mac the Knife / Mac Tonight reference.. . i hadn’t thought of that in maybe twenty years. . . . as an adult there is a completely different set of associations with that…

“Let’s take a song written by a German Communist for an anti-capitalist avant garde opera, and the song itself is based on medieval european murder ballads, and the protagonist is a knife murderer, and we will use it to sell hamburgers with a dude in a suit wearing a giant moon head”

The actor should get an oscar just for pulling that off…

  2. Norm I am constantly shocked at how sheltered you are in the big city from the rest of the country.
On restaurants and thanksgiving… I have worked in the restaurant industry for the past 17 years. People go out to restaurants on major holidays. It’s big business especially Thanksgiving and Xmas. Restaurants are usually booked full on those days. Also most people who work restaurants know beforehand that we do not get holidays off. I have never had a holiday off unless it works into my scheduled days off. We know this going into this job so it’s really no big deal.

Now on TV’s and really electronic media… You guys are always talking about the new, the cool, the most updated and I understand, this is Tested after all but not everyone in the country has the money or the connections that you have. Most of us can’t afford to go out and buy a 4K TV and a game system all in the same shopping season. $2000 is more money then a good chunk people make in a month.

  3. Re HDMI 2.1: In order to utilize 4K at high frame rates, 8K, and 10K resolutions, a new cable will be required called “Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable”. I haven’t seen anything about more pins. The new cable is backwards compatible with older HDMI versions.

  4. I’m struggling to understand what you guys think the difference is between blind boxes and in-game loot boxes. As far as I can tell, they are 100% equivalent.

  5. Yip. I worked in Hospitality for about 8 years in kitchens. No one in the industry expects to have holidays off. It just comes with the territory. No one who works in hospitality long term does so without a love for the work.

Jumangi…. I thought that would be hot garbage, but I saw the preview the other day. Looks like it will be pretty funny/good

Kishore – thanks for the incites into Avengers. I think someone has to die, just to up the stakes for the future.

  6. The first time I saw a DVD being promoted in-store, they used Pixar’s A Bug’s Life. I also saw Princess Bride a lot.

My first DVDs were Ghostbusters and Disney’s Tarzan.

  7. Great addition of Danica and her pop culture knowledge to the podcast!

I feel like it’s hard to talk about Coco without talking about the recent revelations about John Lasseter decades-long inappropriate behavior at Pixar. He’s on a six month “sabbatical”, but really he should be fired for all the allegations like kissing female employees on the lips as a “greeting”, rubbing their legs at meetings, and needing a handler to stop him from sexually harassing women at parties.

I think Disney hopes this news will blow over in the next six months. They probably fear that he’ll be hired to run another animation company, but this whole thing is nauseous, and I don’t want this to go under people’s radars.

  8. re cursing in star wars: there is zeb’s ‘karabast!’ in rebels, that might count as a curse and going a similar route to firefly – make the curses obvious, but generally unparseable.

  9. its so odd to hear about norm and danica being in locations just a few miles from my house, when they are based on the other side of the country.

  10. I think the third movie Danica is searching for is Austin Powers, at least that’s what came with my first DVD player.

  11. I’ve been a listener for a few years and just wanted to say that I think Danica did an awesome job and was a big addition to the podcast this week.

  12. PS2 was my first player. The movie that was plastered as quality at the time, and my first DVD, was Gradiator. Was a special edition and paid 50 Aussie dollars, which is like $700 US :-).

To add to Norm, I got Starship Troopers shortly afterwards which was a 2 sided disc that needed to be pulled out and turned over halfway through the film.
