I have to say, the editing of The Toys That Made Us is absolutely infuriating. Constant jump cuts every three seconds, the repeat-single-word-from-interviews joke that wore out in season one etc. It is as if they can’t trust people to follow a single sentence to its conclusion, because you can probably cut the number of full-sentence shots from an interview, per episode, on one hand.
It is a shame, because the show’s premise is so good, and they seemingly get access to everyone they ask… but what is the point of getting Kevin Smith on your show if the only words you’re going to use is “Cowabunga! Dude!”, albeit six times in 45 minutes.
I wish The Toys That Made Us would reach back to the late 70s/early 80s and cover a) Micronauts, and b) Shogun Warriors. Both were really awesome toy lines for pre-teen me, and from what little I know, they both had an interesting origin as compilations of random Japanese toys.
As an aside, am I the only person who finds these outros they’ve been playing for the last few weeks to be kind of annoying? Like, not quite music, and not quite clever editing, just repeated phrases over sound effects and a beat that doesn’t line up with anything?
