  1. I’m thinking tweezers with insulated handles might be useful for this. And of course somebody else suggested gator clips, which seems like a really good idea.

  2. I love the Mutual assured burning (MAB) deal. Catching myself whising for an accident burn that lead to warfare that leads to banning of solder in the future shows 😀

  3. Yep, croc clips or a pair of haemostats comes in handy for this type of soldering, even a pair of needle-nose pliers with an elastic band will help.

In addition, if you use the stats/clips/pliers in-between the solder point and the component, they’ll act as a heatsink and prevent the component from overheating if you’re having trouble getting the solder to flow.

Best thing is the correct type of solder (silver/tin iirc for stainless steel) and a powerful soldering iron though as the more powerful iron will heat a smaller area faster and allow the solder to flow correctly. If you try this with a crappy little Antec or similar cheap iron, you’ll be heating the wire so long to get the temperature, you’ll be at risk of damaging components, burning yourself etc, that much more.

  4. Not loving the new player – it doesn’t particularly bug but I’m on a practically-a-relic Macbook Pro (like, the furthest back you can go and still run Yosemite) which handles HTML5 a lot better than flash.

Also, I just friggin hate flash and always have, so, you know, now that there’s a viable alternative…

  5. – and also, yeah, second the gator clips trick; being a former woodworker, not clamping your work down makes my skin crawl.

  6. Again, no downloadable content 🙁 I have Flash uninstalled for a variety of reasons and now can’t view content here.

    I’m thinking you meant “instructions”

BTW, since I have Flash disabled, setting the iPad as the user agent loads the HTML5 content like a charm! Do you think you could make this a normal function of the page?
