Tested Builds: LEGO Star Wars, Part 6

Our builders have completely lost track of time as they push into the final bags of their LEGO UCS kits. No one can afford to make any mistakes. Also, Will tells a parable. Follow along with the build by signing up for a Tested Premium Membership here!

  1. The “custom” piece Will complains about doesn’t fit my definition of custom piece. To me a custom piece is a piece used in less than 10 sets. That wedge is used in many sets.

  2. i have 2 800+ piece star wars 3d puzzles I can send u to do in a puzzle race. millennium falcon and imperial star destroyer.

  3. I really wouldn’t mind a puzzle race. Honestly, the part of these races I find the most amusing is listening to you guys talk about random things or coming up with the ways you can hurt yourselves/totally screw up your projects. The risk of swallowing puzzle pieces would be high!

  4. I can’t wait until I feel well enough to actually watch all of these new LEGO Build videos.. 😔 😷 Stupid cold. 😪

  5. Disclaimer; I’m not a Lego builder. But what I’d like to ask about these Lego sets in general, what is creative about it? Basically you just follow the instructions and voila! To me that almost makes me just want to buy a completed set. 🙂 To me, Lego would be about constructing something totally new, no custom parts involved etc.

it’s like model building, there is a level of satisfaction you get by building a kit with your own two hands. Granted, model building involves a lot more work, but I can see the parallels.

  7. I’ve been searching online for lego kits…and most are kiddie stuff. Where do you go to find the ultimate kits you guys are working on? And are they just for Star Wars right now?

Saw an Avengers Shield helicarrier idea, if that ever goes into production, you guys should definitely put that sucker together, and then hang it above your desks. 🙂

Star Wars is big for Lego, but there are other great kits. Check out the Ghostbusters Ecto-1 kit. It’s a beautiful model and a fun build. The best part is it’s small enough for easy display. It’s been featured on the site twice, once on its own and then mentioned in Norm’s favorite things for 2014.

The Super Heroes series is bound to get some big kits. There is already a large Batman Tumbler kit.

There’s also the Lego Architecture series.

You can also find custom creations online and then by the bricks from Lego or Brick Link.

  9. thanks for the info! I’m not really into building cars, architecture, and not a fan of batman. I was hoping to find some Star Trek, or other Space shows type stuff. Lost in Space (movie) Would be cool. I could get into a Tron bike, jet, etc. I found the “ideas” site, but can’t find the other site where you can download someone’s design. I guess Lego is still catching up to the new craze.

I just built my first kit this weekend, the Milano Ship from Guardians of the Galaxy, and I’m hooked. I’m surprised Lego doesn’t jump on making bigger kits. I could see people doing kits that would take a couple of weeks to build, easy.
