Tested Builds: DIY Arcade Cabinet Kit, Part 3

It’s only day three of the Porta-Pi arcade cabinet build, but is the end already in sight? In this episode, we install the large LCD screen, and wire up the switches. (Follow along the rest of the week by joining the Tested Premium member community!)

  1. Blue painter’s tape would have helped keep the screws from falling out, and possibly held the brackets temporarily in place during the LCD assembly.

  2. Use a cup for the screws! lol. Also you should have the pip up more often of will assembling so we can see him solder and mess up countersinking

  3. Guys, just put the nuts onto the bolts to hold the LCD in place temporarily. You can always take them back off again…

Also, Norm, even if the bracket is bowed the LCD will not fall straight down through the bolts.

  4. If I was building something like this, and I am really clumsy and bad at building generally, I would clear my desk of extraneous crap first. But Will and Norm seem to fill their desks with constant clutter. It almost drives me to twitch in OCD-like spasms.

  5. Too late now, but flipping the warped bottom screen edge support was a mistake. Since your leverage points are on the end, keeping it bowed out away from the screen would pull down the sides to the middle flattening it and the gap, instead you have it opposite.

A little piece of tape could hold those screws in while you work. I’ll sure its all part of the ‘show’ to help make this entertaining. Your folly our gain, right? 🙂

In that vein and well intended jest, I can’t resist a light bulb joke here:

If tested were installing a light bulb, who would ride the bicycle?

Answer: All of them, how else would you get up the momentum to spin the ladder and the table at the same time!

Thanks guys, keep up the great work, the chaos does help make it entertaining.
