Tested Builds: Fallout 4 Mini Nuke Kit, Part 3

The interior of the model is assembled! Now it’s time to consider how we’re going to paint the exterior. Frank lays out a technique for weathering that may suit this model really well. It involves the use of toothpaste! (Follow along the rest of the week by joining the Tested Premium member community!)

  1. Great Vid, Frank a tip I heard recently about masking is to remove the masking tape after the paint has a short time to set up , you seemed to do this subconsciously when you were doing the yellow stripe, I always heard that thinned paints will creep under masking much easier, is there a way to counter this . Keep it up looking forward to the weathering

  2. Thanks for the inspiration guys! I was looking for something to do today and started this during part one, and finished during part two! Keep up the awesome work! Now… what to do during the rest of the parts…?

  3. hey tested,

great content as usual, but i have a question about the (new?) videoplayer, why do i have to inspect the video and open the original player to be able to adjust the volume. And why is this video only available in 480p? it’s a shame that all the work that is done goes to waste with a bad intergrated videoplayer..

    kind regards

  4. Another technique I’ve used for weathering is just to take high grit sandpaper to the top coat and scratch it off to reveal the base coat in a way that’s going to mimic real wear and tear.

  5. I wonder if you were using some kind of clear making like the burn gel if you could just slap some food colouring in it or something so you can see what you’re doing. Whatever colour will give some contrast to your base.

  6. Yes, when painting stripes on walls and panels the trick is to

    1) Apply masking tape to masked area
    2) Apply a coat of the original/base colour along the mask line
    3) Apply mask colour

Dry times between coats will vary depending on paint. Painting the original colour will fill in the gaps/bleed under the tape, so when you pull off the tape your line of the new colour is clean.

Though I don’t know if this tip will work for models as it works for walls?
