Seeing Norm in that cabin made me think the light switch and door handles look oddly familiar, and had to look it up to make sure my hunch is correct (and it was):
The Kapitan Khlebnikov is a Finnish built vessel. (Completed in 1981 by Wärtsilä) Those switches and handles can be found on most Finnish buildings from the era.
I guess the drone didn’t work for the rest of the footage. haha 🙂
I am crossing my fingers that it *did* work, but they are saving it for the publicly available videos that are coming 🙂

I’m kind of shocked that they didn’t do a drill with you before the ship left to familiarize yourself with the suit and how to don it properly. Every suit doesn’t fit everyone. Did they put suits appropriate for your size in the staterooms? Glad you found them on your own. It would have been horrible to waste time looking for it in an emergency.
, that’s a very interesting connection. I am currently studying ice class ship structures in school and one of my professors mentioned the history between Finland and the Soviet Union. Following WWII, the Soviet Union took ice breakers as part of the reparations for the war. Apparently the Soviet Union would often ask for 3 fully completed designs and then chose the best one to be constructed. This lead Finland/Wartsila to become world leaders in the design and construction of ice class ships.

My guess is that a ship that size gives you a fair amount of notice before everybody has to get into the water. Also they have lifeboats that can hold everybody, so I’m guessing the sequence is something like: announcements over ship’s system that we’re evacuating and with detailed instructions about where to get your survival suit, everybody get to the boats with the suits and other basic essentials, while on the lifeboats everybody helps each other into survival suits if it looks like it’s going to be that kind of thing.

they are more like one size fits nobody. some you leave your shoes on some you don’t, that looks like one to leave your shoes on to don. we’re told to help each other into them, as they are a bit difficult to get into.
