Let’s Build: Kiki’s Delivery Service Papercraft, Part 2

We’re blown away by the intricate details of this kits, which has us putting up a house from the ground up. Walls, windows, molding, and even brick trim is all represented in 1/150 scale. But getting that curved roof on will not be easy!

  1. surprised that norm and sean dont like metal earth kits. seems like something they would enjoy they can be hard to assemble at times but the finished models do look amazing. have you seen the metal earth iconx series they are a bit bigger and more detailed then just the normal metal earth kits and you guys might like them

  2. I second those Metal Earth kits. They are super cool. They can be a bit frustrating in the beginning, but I have a bunch of Star Wars ones littered across my bookcases now. Super fun, and they look great.

  3. The Metal Earth kits are more one person projects though, you can’t really work on one with multiple people without getting in each others way. They take 1-2 hours a piece if you take your time, so it might be fun to get a bunch and have each person build 2 or 3 over the course of a week of build 🙂

  4. yes they are more of a one person build so they might not be good for a week of builds but maybe they could do one for an episode of old fx shop there is a nice motorcycle model that frank might like

  5. I don’t know, it might be fun to have them build multiple Star Wars ships and pose them all together for a final close up fly by shot of various X-wings and TIEs in a dogfighting scene 🙂

  6. I third the Metal Earth kits. Plus, you’ve just reminded me, I’ve got one of the Tiger Moth from Laputa: Castle In the Sky that I’ve yet to build. I got it from the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo, a couple of years ago, and somehow forgot about it. Going to make a start on it tonight.

  7. I built the TIE Advanced Metal Earth Kit. I found it more frustrating than fun. Fiddling with the metal tabs was annoying and literally painful at times. Needle nose pliers were a help. I also don’t the finished products particularly aesthetically pleasing. I’m not sure why. I think I have an unopened R2D2 kit somewhere and have been hesitant to tackle it.

  8. I’ve built four of the Star Wars metal earth kits and I think the final results vary somewhat. Trying to get the dome right on R2 and the round cockpit on the TIE fighter were particularly stressful. I also find they can be a bit flimsy, bend something two much and the metal fatigues. That said I think they look great on a shelf and at about $10/£10/€10 a time really great value for money. Want to check out the iconx line now and see what they’ve got.
