Let’s Build: Kiki’s Delivery Service Papercraft, Part 4

Time for the best part of the build–flocking! It’s Danica’s turn to take the build chair and apply some of that greenery to our nearly-completed model!

  1. Phew! Thanks for the last bit! I got worried wouldn’t see the finished model. Sometimes we don’t always get a good “payoff”. 🙂

Those models are cool. It has me thinking of how to use my Silhouette Cameo cutting gizmo to make stuff like this. I can cut card stock on it but have focused on the “3D” models printed and glued. It never occurred to me to use it more like a “CNC” paper cutter with tabs and slots.

By the way I am pretty dang sure those models must be die cut not laser cut. Even with protection against scorching laser cutting wouldn’t be “efficient” for large production runs. Each cut, even with multiples cut at once, would take more time than a die cut as it traces the cut pattern. Die cutting is BOOM stamped out in one go. It would be able to cut out a bazillion of those things super fast with no effect on the paper. I am sure the price of these kits and the number produced would cover the huge expense of creating intricate die cuts.

  2. great job all of you that really does look amazing!

how much longer after you cut the video did it take you to finish the rest of the flocking?

  3. without cameras rolling, we finished at the end of the day, working on it on and off. really happy with the results!

  4. Yes, of course it must have been a few weeks now since the recording, sorry.

It is a supplier that Danica and Norm were searching for since a few years now. Danica was saying the “black plastic base for the little models other than http://www.collectingwarehouse.com.
Probably talking about something similar to the (World of miniatures Bears ) cases that were available on Ebay a few years ago.

By the way the Dorothy house and Firewatch kits you were talking about, are from me.
    Thanks. Ben
