This is Only a Test 129 – After the Birth – 7/5/2012
On this week’s episode, Will enjoys the new office, Andy discards his dog sling, and Norm fears the fecal mist. All that, plus the latest on patents, Windows 8 pricing, next week’s Comic-Con, and a sweaty edition of fake outtakes.

Example1013 just replied to your comment:
I’d rather they make an operating system that works on low-power technology so we can avoid Windows 8 taking up more fucking RAM than PhotoShop. Seriously, there’s no reason why Windows 7 has a 2GB minimum RAM requirement, and at this rate, Windows 8 will require 8 gigs (since XP originally required 256).

Seriously, I have been running Windows 7 on 2GB of RAM since its release and will not have new machine with more RAM for about another month. The OS seems to work fine but my apps are noticeably lagged. I will probably just get a fucking Mac.
I don’t think Microsoft realizes that many people don’t like having an OS that requires a hardware update just to function properly. Or maybe they do, and want to try to force upgrades. Regardless, it’s why so many people still use XP.
New office. Ooh, fancy.
Can we get a tour soon?
Edit: Just scrubbing through it to see what’s discussed, will listen to it tomorrow. Excited to hear Gary’s experiences. And I’ve listened to around 30 seconds of Andy discussing Amazon’s web services and I’m already intrigued.
Will, that sauna story is the stuff of nightmares.
you such a good dancer Will. XD
Congrats on the baby Gary. And congrats Will and Norm on the new office, though to be honest Gary’s news is by far bigger and more important.
Alway enjoyable when norm gets the vapors when confronted with biological reality…
Never took Norm for germaphobe 🙂
Congratulations to Gary once again and on another great podcast!
Also, lol @ Norm’s many reactions throughout this podcast
Congrats Gary!
I was listening the audio version of this podcast and I had to come here to watch Norm’s reaction. Hilarious! lol
Congratulations Gary!!!
As always, love the dancing Will!
Tested’s taught me more about babies than school ever could.
Dancing Will needs a gif.
Holy crap. Quite literally and figuratively. Lollin’ tons at this podcast.

Dancing Will Gif.
Am I the only one who think it’s kind of ridiculous to buy a laptop for over $2000 and be impressed that it can run Diablo III and Starcraft II?
Also, reading on the iPad while on the toilet = win.
Norm is cute when he’s grossed out.
Norm is such a delicate flower.

Oh… and congrats Gary on your new baby, Babby Whitta.
I think they were impressed because Diablo III was playing smoothly at the “retina” resolution. That resolution is significantly higher than 30″ monitors… so that’s why they were impressed.
Also there’s the fact that everything else looks shitty and blurry on the retina display because app developers didn’t have the time to update their assets
No I’m pretty sure I remember them being impressed that it could be played smoothly in a lower resolution. Reading reviews on other sites they claim 15-20 fps at 2880×1800 and the game being “barely playable” (http://www.theverge.com/2012/6/13/3082649/macbook-pro-review-retina-display-15-inch).
Well from your the verge article: “At full resolution and maxed out settings (shadows, physics, etc.), we jumped between 15 and 20 frames per second”
So do you expect the laptop to run Diablo 3 at max setting at 2880×1800? That’s a bit unrealistic.
A Dell 30 inch monitor’s resolution is about 2560 x 1600… you would need a respectable video card in a PC to run this resolution at max setting.
Anyways, in your article that you linked, it does say that you can run Diablo 3 smoothly at max resolution with some settings turned off.
NSFN – Not Safe For Norm……..
I understand that. I can’t find where it says that Diablo III is playable at max resolution, it says that you have to turn the resolution down a bit. It is unrealistic but the Tested guys seemed impressed that it could run Diablo III at all.
It’s the same way with the Macbook Air video, Will tested it and found that it had 4 hours of battery life while surfing. No further comment – like that is acceptable for a 1200 dollar laptop.
They do criticize Apple products and they said that the new retina MBP is a bad buy. My question is this: Do we really need Tested to “review” Apple products that they buy for themselves? I get that the videos are popular and that they are going to buy the Apple products anyway so why not make a video out of it? But I’m not sure that it fits with the new Tested. I’m not sure that it does anything for me that hundred other tech sites don’t do already (or better).
How did you manage to make it vertically stretched on 16:9?
Oh Norm. Poor fella.
In my experience with anatomy study, people’s reactions come in one of only 2 types. The fascinated and the horrified. There didn’t seem to be much in between when I was studying at the hospital anatomy lab. You’re either in there elbowing your fellow students to get out of the way so you can get your eyes an extra few inches closer to the cadaver, or you are standing three feet away from the gurney, not talking, not moving, and blood visibly draining from your face. One person actually fainted during our first lecture in that lab. One moment okay, next moment on the floor twitching. I thought maybe this person was epileptic, but no.
Norm has a very unhealthy view on bathrooms. VERY unhealthy.
