Let’s Build: 3D-Printed Steampunk Scuttlefish!
This week, we’re starting a new Tested feature. Our 3D printing and rapid prototyping expert Sean Charlesworth stops by the office to share one of his recent projects: a 3D printed steampunk scuttlefish he designed. We discuss the design and printing of this project, and assemble the pieces to make this awesome tentacled monster!

Love to idea of bringing Sean in for a detailed explanation. I originally joined Tested in large part because of 3D printing advice and news. Thanks!
I would love to see a video about the brainstorming, design concept and troubleshooting some of the issues you would have with this project.
This was very cool. Sean is great on camera and very talented. More of this content, please.
Heck yeah! This is great stuff!
I wish everyone thought about 3D printing the way Sean does. Grain/orientation is important.
so cool.
Awesome! I’d love to see more from Sean. Print the mystery object was cool for it’s time, how about “design the mystery object” with Sean as the next step! I’m sure I’m not the only one who would benefit from some intermediate how-tos.
Sean does a great job demonstrating what is possible with careful calibration of a consumer 3d printer, this is an amazing design.
I second the Simplify3D software. I wasn’t supper happy with my printer quality and the Slic3r software. When I found S3D, it was like I had a new printer. The layer control and project management of S3D is worth the cost. I agree though, $150 is really had to go for, but I’ve found it worth it.
