  1. My favorite VR game this year has been The Talos Principle. Since it was originally a first person puzzle game it works really well converted to VR when picking up the puzzle objects or having to navigate between moving sentries. I had played through a chunk of the original game but I find in VR I spend more time checking out little details in the world.

In 2018 I hope for more Vanishing Realms and Budget Cuts as a full game.

  2. So I got an Oculus Rift + Touch (for my son!) this Christmas. It works well on my HP Z420 + GTX 1070 but 8g Ram and 500g hd is a bit scant. I’ve got a question for the original adopter Oculus users that upgraded to Touch. How often do you use a game pad control? It seems like a lot of content out there was originally written for a game pad and I’m wondering if it will still be the control of choice for some experiences. Also, I’ll put in a vote for Lucky’s Tale for best VR experience. Yes, it’s a 3rd person platformer but it’s so clean, clear, crisp it’s just beautiful and I’d like to see more like it. Biggest disappointment; PinballFX VR is no longer supported by ZEN, no new tables.

  3. On the Oculus core side there has been third party solutions for importing windows into the game, and Virtual Desktop have just added it.

On the games front, I still always come back to hotdogs, horseshoes and hand grenades. The devs super responsive and has been absolutely crushing it when it comes to updates and balancing a super detailed gun simulator with loads of whacky meat based game modes is brilliant. It’s really a game to point to and say that’s what an indie developer working solo or in a small team in the VR space can really achieve.

Recently I’ve also tried Star Shelter, which is a great game and something I’m looking forward to see develop more. It’s got a great vibe to it already and the zero g survival in space is cool and it’s the first time it hasn’t made me motion sick.

One that came out recently and I’ve only just gotten around to is VTOL VR, it’s a brilliant new take on a classic combat flight sim in VR, another early access title, but actually a really good flight sim. And as a christmas surprise X-Plane 11 released a preview of it’s VR update and it was amazing, flight sims are fantastic in VR and really have an added benefit as flying VFR without 3D isn’t really that representative of the real thing, but in VR it’s so immersive and really gives you the feel of flying.
