Hands-On with Looking Glass Volume, a True Volumetric 3D Display!

We get up close with Volume, a true volumetric display that can be used for creating 3D content, viewing depth-enhanced videos, and playing holographic games. Its inventors stop by our office to explain how the display works and how they hope volumetric imaging can change how we interact with computer graphics and imagery.

  1. bit too much on the stereo audio separation 🙁 kinda painful to listen to in headphones, tbh. Like each of them is talking directly into one of my ears, which is just not pleasant 🙁

    cool video though

I agree, it’s like an ASMR video but in the total opposite direction of relaxing and soothing.

  3. I agree about the audio separation.

Amazing technology shown here though. I’m fascinated to see how it moves forward, and I’d love to be able to experience it in person.

  4. I didn’t understand it in the podcast, and even after watching that video, I still don’t understand it. It’s cool, and it could be very promising, especially for the VR aspect.

  5. I applaud their ingenuity but feel the quality is subpar. More of a novelty at this point. But hey, I don’t want to sound like a dick — you do have to start somewhere. Keep pushing it.

  6. This is kinda like what I pondered when H-cell tech emerged and folks (my friends really) were knocking it and talking about how impractical it was in some of it’s implementations.

“This will never take off – it’s not useful”

Ya know, everything is subpar in the first couple generations.

My worry is, they won’t be able to sell it well enough to move forward.

    Help me Obi wan.

  7. This reminds me of the very early days of television.

The little screen in a huge box. With a low grade image.

Now just look how that ended up and where it has taken us.

This is trying to do something different from the current. And its so early days. Its like Lucky in his garage with a gaffa taped mess of cable , lens and screens.

I wish all the best to these folks and i believe its not all about the product now its about where it will go.and how it will develope.I will watch these folks with great interest.
