Adam Savage Talks to a Wall – Unimpossible Missions
Is something that’s “like talking to a wall” REALLY that bad? Maybe not. Using accelerometer technology, Adam Savage shows how GE engineers were able to detect and travel sound through several feet of concrete. Watch more here.

the drawing in 1:21 is incorrect, the theory of operation is correct for the GE product but not necessarily for other accelerometers.
The more “episodes” come out the less impressive it becomes. Everything could be achieved with of the shelf technology. I guess it is what it is – a product demo
I was harsh on the critic about the last video in this series. I find this one a proper teaser for a product (in a world where commercial interest is needed). It’s well demonstrated, explained and well produced.
Hey, I was expecting a blurred reading on with a graph superimposed to show the waves, not a real working experiment! 😉
This one indeed, was much better. But, I guess we got lucky.
This was cooler then the snowball one. SO if I understood the GE video correctly, Adam could have placed the device on the outside wall of his shop, and talked on the other side of the shop, and the device would have picked up the sound? WOW
If nobody hasn’t seen the GE video yet, go check it out and understand that “No mans land” separates the wall that the reader is in front of, and the wall that the listeners are in front of. Amazingly sensitive device.
Nice use of the o-scope on this demonstration, Adam. Cheers…
3 minute uninteresting ad.
– Shouldn’t be a secret anymore that this is somehow financed by GE and more to the point it isn’t the first ‘unimpossible missions’ video Adam posts. So by now you should probably know what to expect when you hit the play button.
After all, he has to make a living now that he is technically “between jobs” with Myth busters pushing up daisies
-)
People seem to want it to be clearer than it already is, and I don’t think we can blame people for asking for this. Some of the replies to comments about this on YouTube are pretty vicious, suggesting people are mentally challenged for not understanding it’s financed by GE. Makes me sad to think people who watch and are fans of Adam, who genuinely seems to be such a nice guy, can be this way towards others.
sorry to be a pedant, but where exactly in this video does Adam talk to a wall?
– indeed true. Many of the comments about this clip on youtube are downright evil.
Even if this is an ad for GE i enjoy it because it keeps the inquisitive spirit of Myth Busters alive in a way. And kind of opens your eyes to the broad spectrum of what GE does.
Kind of makes me think of a phrase coined by another large company. Where ever you are you are never more than 10 feet away from a 3M product.
You are absolutely correct on all counts. But I can still wish for more and sigh when I see this tripe. 🙂
