I would totally watch a post apocalyptic show where Adam drives around in his Land Rover with his robot dog Spot. Just saying.
Yes!!! I’m so excited for this series!
I was working on a similar robot for the army back in the 90s. Someone asked the army rep if the troops would be bothered that it looked like a large animal without a head. He said, “You don’t know our troops very well. They’ll put a head on it !” Anyway… next trip, the dog park.
Sooooo many questions! Can he carry things (strapped to his back, presumably)? pull things (eg. a cart)? jump up on platforms? If so, how high? Can he fetch? I kind of wanted to seem him try and walk across the ‘under’ logs that he got stuck on, like Adam did. How’s he do in mud? snow (from 3 in to a foot or so)? scree?
those questions (and more!) will be answered in fun and unexpected ways!
This is GREAT! It will be fantastic to understand its capability. I’m really looking forward to your work with this mechanical K-9.
All the dogs we had, had a special treat that they got if they were especially good. What will be Spots special treat? An extra charge on his batteries?
My son is a fireman/paramedic for our town’s fire department and a federal world wide response team so he will be watching also.
We do all remember the Tom Selleck movie “Runaway” right?
Hi Adam. This is so cool that you are going to be working with Boston Dynamics. I would love to know how this collaboration started!!!! Did you contact them?? (Relentlessly?) or did they come to you?
You know you will break it. How much does it carry? Enough to carry it’s own solar panel to charge on the go? Is it waterproof? Can it use a drone to scout ahead?
The best defense against a bad guy with a black budget attack robot is a good guy with a black budget attack robot-derived toy? Are we responsible for who we partner with?
Adam, what are specs on battery?
How long did it last?
Does it have like a docking station?
You need to build a doggy bed that charges spot.
I remember Adam contributing to a book named “Don’t give guns to robots” that magically disappeared. Slightly odd to see a video on this, considering it’ll likely be gunning down “insurgents” any day now.
Yup, my concern exactly.
Please don’t overlook the fact that even though is it painted a bright cheery yellow, “Spot” is still a DARPA funded weapon and not a toy.
Arts Yup, this thing is a weapons platform first and foremost. The previous generations of BD robots were never used in combat because they were too loud to operate effectively against the enemy… and when SpotMini was launched, the first thing Boston Dynamics pointed out was that it was their quietest robot yet.
I’m gladd to see that much concern about the weaponisation (this word exixst?) of this incredible piece of engineering.
I hope Adam will make a statement about this and talk about how much usefull this thing can be to actually HELP people. Like working on disaster areas, space exploration, help and rescue. the posivilities to do good are incredible.

Amazing Rickshaw! If interested, there is an extreme environment event in Aug/Sep that the Rickshaw would fit into perfectly as a Mutant Vehicle, and would be a fantastic durability test of Spot. So I would like to extend to you a personal invitation to go to Burning Man, and if you’d like, to camp with the Black Rock Travel Agency, right at the BRC Airport…. Just a thought.
