Adam, what is the grit of your big sanding board? I need to make one right away. I was thinking 150-220 was a good mid-range.
Love this video so much! You’ve taught me a lot of techniques in such a short time! The only bit of feedback I have here is that Adam seems so very agitated through this entire build. Like he’s under the gun. I’m sure he really is, which makes the agitation more real for me as a viewer. Maybe that’s the point for folks who are building for film production of some kind. But for me, it raised my heart rate quite a lot; I try to view this kind of building as more meditative and thoughtful.
Adam, I hope you can slow down a bit in the future. I don’t need more frequent one-day builds if they’re as good as this one. I hope in the future you can look like you’re enjoying yourself!
And Norm and camera guys/gals, gosh, what amazing editing. You are communicating many minutes of work in 2-3 shots!
Agitated? Didn’t get that feeling really, maybe he was a little bit as the quality wasn’t what he normally gets (as he pointed out a few times)? Enjoyed it a lot.
Great Video. I’ve vacuum-formed before, but there were lots of little useful tips in here. I really like the idea of a sandpaper covered tabletop. Thanks for returning to your Tested “roots” of one-day-builds.
Great vid and very inspiring. Have some ideas I wanted to play with so I wanted to ask what thickness the styrene was for this build. Having never used the material before it looked like a very versatile weight.
Hey Adam, and the Tested team –
Long time watcher, first time commenter. RE tweezers, I come from the electronics world, and I’m very partial to the WIHA brand SA-ESD line. (not affiliated – i promise). I have around 5 of them in the lab at all times – sharp, semi-sharp, blunt, offset, curved, etc. There’s dozens of tips, lengths, shapes, etc. to choose from. The stainless they use is very long-lasting. I have one pair that I bought in 2003 that I’m still using, burn marks and all. Look into it – wihatools.com/tools/tweezers
Wiha is an extremely quality brand! Germany made tools: nothing to add!!!
I have their screwdrivers (a lot) some pliers (very reasonable price, if you dent, don’t make you cry!) but I didn’t know about their tweezers. Thank you very much for bring this up!
while informative, it looks like you didn’t even need to use ren shape for that build as the only rounded object was the tiny dome on the top which you prob could of kit bashed with some kind of found object far easier i think.. looks like the entire body of the ship is flat edges whitch should be simple enuf todo with styrene sheet. I sapose the point of the video was to show how to use ren shape and vacume form which you did so still informative and this is the type of builds i sighned up for so thanks.
Thanks so much for this video! I’ve been trying to figure out what I’m going to do once I start at my local maker space, this might be what I do!
