Adam Savage’s One Day Builds: LEGO Lunar Lander!

Just in time for the 50th annivesary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, Adam speed builds the beautiful LEGO lunar lander set that was developed in cooperation with NASA! From moon craters to laser reflector panels, Adam is super impressed by the detail infused in this model. Now a question which shelf does it belong on: with space stuff or LEGO builds?

  1. Adam, and all the Lego lovers out there, I have a suggestion for a party game to play with your fellow Lego aficionados.

I don’t know who first did it but I learned of this from a Canadian comedy troupe when they did it on their yearly Desert Bus telethon for the Child’s Play charity. (you should look that up, they are good people and it’s a good cause)

What you do is buy a simple lego kit. Give one person the bricks but don’t tell them what they are making. Then give a second person the instructions. You then separate them so they can not see what each other is doing but can still easily talk to each other. You can guess what happens next, the one with the instructions tries to explain how to build the kit to the one with the bricks. When you they are done, see how well it all went together and if it’s anything at all like what it is supposed to be.

It’s a real test of communication as well as your Lego knowledge.

  2. It’s time to build mine. The box is in the shelf for a couple of weeks.

Is that a Laco B-Uhr on your wrist?

  3. I hate to be pedantic, but there is no such thing as “Legos”. Lego is both singular and plural. According to the company, if you want to make it clear that you are referring to more than one, you call them “Lego bricks”.

  4. Straight from Lego: “Lego” is an adjective and is not meant to be a standalone name. It should always be Lego bricks, Lego building, Lego products, etc.”

  5. Adam, you do realise you put the top part on facing the wrong way? The ladder leads to the rear of the module, not the entrance 😉

  6. Perhaps sneaking out the ‘back door’ was Aldrin’s plan to actually be the first man on the moon. Great build! Great series!!

  7. I’m really curious now – Has Adam never just asked Nestle or Hersheys for a roll of Rolo foil? And to that thought, are they the same foil in the UK vs US?

  8. I apologize if anyone ever gave you the impression that they cared, but I can assure you that this is absolutely not the case. Just to save you some time in the future, nobody wants to know that Kleenex and Band-Aid are brand names when they ask for one of them, either.
