I prefer to tell people to aim for the midrange prices and “try before you buy” with any non-disposable tool they might be considering. While a very large number of folks will never notice the difference between a $30 drill and a $300 one, a $30 airbrush has virtually nothing in common with a $300 model aside from the name. Buying cheap in that instance is actually incredibly discouraging and likely to turn a person off of airbrushing entirely. The difference between a $300 airbrush and a $600 airbrush, however, is far more subtle and far less worth it unless you’re really, really good, so shooting for the middle gets you the greatest chance of happiness and a fairly decent resale value if you figure out that it’s just not for you.
