Hearing Adam talk about stick things in your shop made me think of chopsticks and a good use for them. If you have a screw but not a corresponding bit/screwdriver, take a chopstick and file down the end of it so it matches the screw. Maybe the torque on the screw is low enough you can use the wood to unscrew it, otherwise you now have a decent model to use to make your own bit to use.
Nice! I have the same model Nerf gun hanging in my closet waiting to be repainted.. now I have a little more motivation to get working on it again.
Is there any way that we could get Adam to make custom Nerf gear for us? I’d be willing to pay for all the costs of equipment (the nerf gear itself, the mods, and any paint or other things he would use over the course of the process) and shipping both too and from the shop.

one of the things that always kinda confounds me is that when he talks about rub ‘n buff he always only talks about it in the context of what it can do to give plastic things a metal sheen but never what the hell rub n’ buff is actually supposed to be used for. I can look it up easily enough it’s just interesting that it seems he always explains what things are good for in fabrication but also what they’re normally used for but rub ‘n buff seems to escape this somehow.
I have a wall of nerf guns i bought specifically to mod and repaint but have yet to find the time and the inspiration to do anything with them.

Not sure exactly what you mean? Rub N Buff is made for giving non metal things a metallic sheen, that is its original purpose. 🙂
The company, Amaco, mostly makes glazes and other stuff for clay applications, but also make other finishes for craft/hobby applications. Their own page on Rub N Buff has a gallery of toy gun mods and cosplay armor.
I’ve been binge-watching all of Tested’s content over the last few weeks, but this is complete garbage.
It’s not a 1-day build. It’s a “watch Adam paint” video. The camera skipped the custom barrel fab, and the Nerf mod kit. What’s the point here? I’m not learning anything. I’ll be going to other YouTube channels now to discover more. You’re missing the point here, Tested.

I know, I know, how to shoot them – but I would really love for Mr. Fameli to show us his awesome chops at making lovely-looking, cool, clear, professional videos with his simple, “one dude with a small rig and few if any lights”, works-in-any-setting technique.
Hopefully done the Tested way – you know, where one can really see what’s going on, with your trademark nerdy-in-the-good-way “getting into the thick of things” values.

I wish you guys could provide a list of the items you use in these videos. Like the rub and buff or the side the modifications were bought from.
… huh. i sorta thought it was something used in repairing minor damage or blemishes or something, sorta like the colored waxes and pastes you can use to repair a scratched wood surface. well nevermind! heh
Adam says in the video you can find Rub’n Buff at Michaels or a craft store something like that. Normally he will state where to locate something during his narration of the task, although sometimes a list could help I see your point. For the Scotch Brite try home depot. The MOD kit, which he gives the brand of during the video are available on Amazon relatively cheap.

I loved the little addendum at the very end concerning the orange tip on the barrel. The reason that that’s a law is because it gives police something bright and obvious to look for to discern if the gun is a threat or not. That being said, one solution to this is not to point a gun at police unless you intend to fire, which I highly discourage, there’s usually more of them than you.
+1 on the list of tools and materials from the build. My son and I love these videos but spend a significant amount of time in replays trying to piece together what Adam used to pull off the magic!

Anybody know what he used to create the silencer?
Great level of detail in this One Day Build video! Not chopped up into sound bites and informationless video montage, yet not drawn out and boring. I’m sure it takes a lot more work to produce videos of this quality but it is much appreciated! I’ll agree with those calling for more detail in the show notes.

Hey Adam….have a helpful tip to add onto the “clockwise” technique, when removing screws from things like electronics, nerf guns, etc.:
Use 3 pieces of duct tape. The first piece is as long as you need and placed sticky-side up on your flat work surface. The other 2 pieces are small and used to hold down the ends of the first piece. Place the screws in the order you removed them onto the sticky duct tape. This way, if you ever bump your work surface, all the screws are still on the work space and still in order.

I had this nerf gun sitting around and wanted to paint it but didn’t know how until I saw this inspiring video. I only had three cans of automotive aerosol paint in the garage. silver, brown primer and gloss black and some sand paper to work with. I wiped on the silver using the same technique as Adam did with the rub and buff. I used electricians tape on the handle and some sand paper to weather it.

I did, actually!
Sorry for the weird angle, it’s a hard gun to get all in one frame. The base brass metallic color there is a spraypaint, I can’t remember which brand anymore, and then all the accent metallics are Vallejo model paints. It took me awhile to get around to tackling the project, but now that it’s painted up, I’m thinking of adding some lighting effects as well.
