  1. Got to give a shout out to Bone Tomahawk for any fans of big-bearded-having, old west Kurt Russell. Not a film for the kiddies or the squeamish but fantastic nonetheless.

  2. Maybe the loss of the martin was a financial loss, but steel strung guitars don’t age that well, it was probably not a great instrument. (like most modern martins :D)

  3. I like Kurt Russell I have yet to see a bad movie with him in it. Bone tomahawk however I felt was poorly written and pivoted around a single gag. If he wasn’t in it I probably wouldn’t have seen it, But Russell made it enjoyable. As for the Martin guitar scene in Hateful Eight, I think jennifer jason leigh broke character.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SSFASO1XvY You can see it just before the cut.

  4. As a note about the theater, the only thing that I can see being a major issue with those policies is that it eliminates and alienates one of the groups that can create significant havoc for their business and have no real choice about having their phones on.

Emergency services and other doctors often are required to have a method of contact on them, and it seems like the kind of thing that would end up with a publicity fail against the police, fire department, EMT’s, and hospitals…

  5. After confirming that we would not be getting the roadshow version where I live I decided against going to see it. Hopefully there will be home release with the full experience.

  6. wow..worst movie i’ve seen in a long time. Should of given me twice my money back. Terrible forced acting and stupid plot.

  7. Haven’t listened to all of this as I haven’t yet seen Hateful 8 – just wanted to say I nearly ordered the same saber as Adam, but then Vader’s Vault announced they were doing Graflex type versions so I ordered one of those instead. I. Cannot. Wait.

  8. Has anyone noticed that every single human being that appears on screen film dies (or is left to die shortly after)? There isn’t a single extra that survives.

I think Tarantino wanted to outperform Reservoir Dogs, where all the main characters die.

  9. I really really hated “The Hateful Eight”…. To me, it just felt like we were watching people suffer; and for me, I don’t care how depraved the people are, in question– I still don’t want to see people suffering needlessly. It all felt far too violent, and definitely like Tarantino was intending to shock, more than normal, even.

And the provocation scene almost made me walk out.

After loving Django, and loving the premise of this film, I was really hoping for an instant classic, but was really very disappointed.

  10. I felt the same way Will did about Hateful Eight… I wanted to go back in watch in again. It really made me feel uncomfortable and unsettled but I really liked it. It was a nice throwback to QT’s older movies and I think one of his best in awhile.

That movie is definitely a love it or hate it movie. It went out of its way to make sure you felt one way or the other with no room for feeling ambivalent about it.

  11. There’s a lot of politics I want to unpack about Hateful Eight. A film where a woman’s liberation is seen as a dangerous element and who at the end is killed by two men, one of whom is emasculated, and it’s a male bonding moment for them. The characters shoot up the cabin and the old general doesn’t care and wont do anything to prevent further violence feels like it relate to real world violence today and the attitude of right wing groups. The general is motivated to violence at the suggestion of homosexual rape. The discussion of frontier justice really is questioning whether capital punishment as justice at all. A character claiming certain things were said by Lincoln that weren’t.

I don’t have answers for these things, but I think there’s a strong political/anti right wing message(s) here. It’s hard for me to believe it’s accidental.

  12. It’s not Kurt Russell’s job as an actor to cut a take. That falls squarely on Tarantino, who knew exactly which guitar was in the shot. Accidents are excusable, but negligence is not.

  13. It was a huge loss. Not financial, but as a piece of American Culture. And it was a nylon string. It sounded incredible. When I first heard about this, I thought that maybe it could have been an accident, but now that I’ve been thinking about it, I don’t know if it really was. Quinten could have yelled cut. They had prop guitars to smash on hand. There really is no excuse for something like this to happen. And the fact that Martin Guitars are never going to loan out a guitar for a movie again makes me even sadder. I loved Hateful Eight, I love Tarantino, but this definitely made me lose some respect for him. And I’ll never be able to watch that scene the same way.
