  1. Still waiting for a VR demo to convince me. Can’t over-hype it? Perhaps. For me it will have to rise above the threshold established by “having to wear shit on my head/face.”

“Apple F”? Wow, you’re real old-school, Norm. Old school Mac guys would say “Command F”. The last time I heard “Apple-anything” was in the Apple ][ days. 🙂

  2. I read _The Dark Forest_ this weekend in hopes this would be a Spoilercast for it…now it looks like I’ll have to watch _Stranger Things_. Any timeline on those Spoilercasts?

  3. I’m with you. I really want to make the investment. I have the desktop hardware, but haven’t found a demo to justify buying the Vive or Oculus.

  4. Now that I have a premium membership, I’m sure you’re going to hate me! Norm, you have the greatest job in the world. I’m so envious. I love what you guys do and these videos always inspire me.

  5. I’m about Norm’s age. In elementary school we had Apple Macs that we played Word Muncher on and some touch typing games. The Command key back then was the Apple logo. We were always taught “Apple+Whatever” commands. To this day, I still say it. People always look at me weird when I say it too. There’s been variants of that key where it had the Apple and the command icon on it, then “command” and “cmd”. I don’t know when they dropped the Apple logo from the key. Anyone?

  6. I hope Will sees this or a comment like it concerning Stranger Things. I’m the exact same way when it comes to horror. I hate jump scares and can’t stand watching most horror movies but I absolutely loved Stranger Things. There’s an occasional jump scare, but I think it plays much more heavily on the suspense and mystery side than the horror and jump scare side.

  7. As a 90’s kid (born in the 80s) I feel like I missed out on a bunch of the movies that Stranger Things takes inspiration from. In the spoiler cast can you please list some of these movies or shows?

    Or someone can comment here….

  8. I put on the first episode before making dinner… 8 hours later I still hadn’t eaten. It was simply amazing.

  9. I know whats mostly planned and those expletives don’t even cover it. I seriously thought about injuring Norm to get on that boat.

Oops – I think Norm reads the comments.

  10. I feel like they dropped it with the Macintosh. I did a quick Google search and found an Apple Lisa keyboard sporting the Apple key. My first Mac was a Mac Plus — it had the command (clover) key.

Ha ha, I seem to recall something like the Apple IIgs or similar having both a solid Apple and an outlined Apple key (two keys). I believe the latter was called “Open Apple …” as in, “Press Open-Apple-P to print your document.”

  11. I originally wrote some stronger language, but went back in to edit once the first “wtf!?” had subsided. :p

  12. It was MUCH later than that. I thought it was within the last 10 years or so. Confirmed!

The A1243 introduced in 2007 dropped it. Those were the single panel all in one iMacs (not the half dome with articulated Arm and screen, but the ones that are more similar to the current form factor) 27 years of Apple Key! You’re right about the closed vs open apple key though.

  13. I bought my first iMac (single panel) in summer 2007 and the keyboard that came with it had the Apple-key. Took a while for them to shift all the non-english keyboard layouts I guess.

  14. Stranger Things! I can’t wait for the spoilercast. I knew that this was going to be my new favourite show from episode 1. Amazing!

  15. Adam,

If you want more synth goodness from Stranger Things, the group/musicians that created the opening theme song and most of the music for the show is called SURVIVE. It’s great back ground instrumental music when working on things.

  16. I just want to say, I saw the knife on the desk and thought , I wonder what they were talking about before recording that included that knife.
So it sat there for a while then Adam picks it up and starts to grip it, probably enjoying it’s feel and texture,as one does with a random object during a conversation.

He then starts raising it higher and higher AND THEN idly runs it around the back-of-his-neck.
I’m now thinking, Adam…. ADAM, put the knife DOWN mate. Do you realise what you are ….

He then very obviously does and puts the knife straight down on the desk, looks at it, “whoops, better leave that alone.”
Body language says ” Yikes! I could of cut my neck with that thing! Focus !”

    Been there.Done that.

  17. Adam,

    Thanks for the tip.
