Baby Zoomers – Still Untitled: The Adam Savage Project – 3/24/20

Week two into our work-from-home reality, we check in to talk about Adam’s livestreaming experiments, his build of the Ecto-1 model kit, and why we feel so strongly about staying at home during this time. Video conferencing as a means for connection is also creating new social norms and changing the way we hang out with our family, friends, and co-workers.

  1. Nice conversation Tested people! I’m really liking this laid-back podcast style. Here in the UK we’re just starting with an almost full lockdown and things are a bit weird. I’m hoping everyone gets used to the idea pretty quickly.

I work from home on my own in the day job so being alone and communicating by conference call is pretty normal. The biggest impact I’m seeing at the moment is that panic buying appears to have messed up the food supply chains and even some basic items like bread and milk have become harder to find. That in turn means that people are having to go out more often than normal because it’s just not possible to stock up for a couple of weeks in one go. I’m told that it’s no longer possible to buy a new freezer either.

Crazy times. For this to be the new normal a lot of things will need to calm down before we can all get used to it.

I’ll try and join the live stream this evening. Adam making stuff is about as normal as it gets!

  2. Adam – we just ordered a new sewing machine (arrives Thursday) – plan to answer the call from hospitals to sew some face masks. Our understanding is that they will insert filters and wash the sewn masks each day…definitely not perfect, but it just might help. In fact – these masks could not replace N95 masks but might help conserve the limited supply of the most effective masks for those in close contact with patients. How about a one-day build of a DIY mask that hospitals could actually use if this thing gets really out of control? We love the videos and your passion for making – keep it up! Let’s help out the front lines in this battle!

  3. Being a detective for a Sheriff’s office south Louisiana, I find that people are comforted seeing law enforcement and other entities operating as normal. We too are comforted seeing you guys each week. Thank you Norm, Adam, and Will for helping the new normal have some remnant of the old normal. Norm, pass it on to Adam and Will that we think you guys are “essential” workers!

  4. Adam quoted Jerry Seinfeld, but go to YouTube and search for “Crazy on the Same Day”.

It should bring up That Guitar Man from Central Park, in NYC. Check out the version where he’s in his element, outside by the lake in Central Park.

  5. Thank you Tested for keeping up content, it is a bit of normalcy in an abnormal time. As a frontline healthcare provider, I find solace in abnormal normalcy (House Editions).

#HelpUsHelpYou “We stayed at work for you, please stay at home for us.”

    Keep up the excellent work.

  6. Adam- Phase 10 is a card game almost exactly like “Sets and Runs.” There are 10 Phases you have to complete and each has parameters you have to meet. And you can’t move on to the next phase until you’ve completed the previous one.
Another fun game is “Skip-Bo.” Two decks worth of cards and you have to discard in a certain order over 4 piles. Challenging to remember the order of play.
    Have fun!

  7. Here in Norway we shut things down about 1.5 weeks ahead of you.

Scenes were similar for the first week or so, with stores out of bread, yeast, toilet paper.

Now, a week later, it is restocked and full.

All the people who hoarded things did so for little reason, and made things harder for everyone, but considering the states has a much easier supply of most things than us, if you are able to hang in there, supplies will be back in soon. and you can get enough for a couple of weeks without having to go hunting.
