Offworld: First Man (2018)
For this special episode of Offworld, Ariel is joined by Adam Savage and space historian Megan Prelinger to review and discuss the new film First Man. They answer some questions asked on social media about the film’s historical accuracy, its presentation of the Gemini and Apollo programs, and talk about where the film stands in relation to other space films like The Right Stuff and Apollo 13.
Again, I have to question why the HBO series “From the Earth to the Moon” isn’t included in the narrative ?
The irony is how many of youtube comments about the flag are paid Russian trolls trying to interfere in the midterms. Or inspired by some Russian troll meme they saw on social media elsewhere, and became obsessed with (that’s what memes do, they spread like a virus, hence the name). We beat Russia in space space but they have defeated us in cyber space.
what are you blithering about?
I finally got to see “First Man” last night. Loved it. I’m pretty sure I read the Autobiography a number of years ago, and I’m sure there is something about Neil leaving something of Karen’s behind.
Late to this video as I finally had time to watch First Man. I really like the film. I’ve heard from NASA friends that loved it and other NASA friends that despised it. Films worth watching evoke these varied reactions. And to see a couple of friends in the film itself makes it fun. I hope the current renaissance of space filmmaking continues. And I was there in 1969 watching that Saturn V and that sound and physical impact of the shock waves as the rocket ascended is something never forgotten.
