  1. I’ve noticed the exact same thing about iOS being better at knowing what I’m trying to touch. Even the tiniest link or button, it somehow always gets it right.

  2. I’m with yah. I got my first laptop a month or two before Windows 7 launched, so it came with Vista. I lived with it for almost a year before finally getting around to updating to Win7. Yeah, I noticed it to be smoother and whatnot, but it’s not like it was a night/day experience.

  3. Will is very right on Windows 8. Microsoft is basically a victim of its own success. Windows is the standard operating system and MacOS and iOS became the hip new operating systems to the young people.

Microsoft has been locked down to the model of “huge new release” for several years. Institutions are reluctant to upgrade beyond the latest service packs, and even then many institutional computers aren’t allowed to get the latest service packs.

Microsoft needs to stop it. They should start doing small software updates like Apple has been doing. People don’t want to be bothered with hundred dollar operating upgrades anymore. I for sure have no interest in Windows 8. I’m a regular computer user and the only thing I can tell that’s different about Windows 8 is the start screen and Modern Apps. I don’t need either of those things and Modern is such an unappealing name.

  4. Man this podcast has really gone to downhill. These guys don’t know what they are on about. “Ummm ohhh well…” “I don’t really know” “You can read more about it [insert website here]”.

Just like the tested website this podcast has become a web aggregator, and links/info from Reddit. Very little actual content, just reading out headline. You should just talk about what you know, star trek, graphic cards, coffee, LEGO and corgis. At least it will be more listenable.

  5. I like that Will rambles on about how bad windows 8 is for 20 min while during this both stating that windows 7 is good and that the improvements 8 is doing in the desktop mode is neat, speed and whatever else it was. You try this os out on old hardware that was designed for 7 and cant for a second imagine what it would be like on a device designed around it, for example the slate?

In a future not far away:

Im using my slate-like device with windows 8 at home hooked up to my tv playing games on steam and streaming video (controlling the modern/metro interface with a 360-controller would be nice), i then take it with me on the bus reading emails and surfing the web. While at work i use it for video editing or watching porn.

Its not hard to see the upside in such a device, thats if your not into the whole thing of buying an iphone to check sms, ipad to play angry birds, macbook air to send emails and your imac to work on. Yes apple has come a long way in making these devices talk to each other in a lot of clever ways but i do not want multiple devices.

Microsoft is looking in their crystal ball and touch will be the future. If it was apple you guys would be down on your knees and bleeding from mouths.

    it just gets boring

  6. I’m sorry to surprise you but not everybody is into the slate format, and the slate has been around for ages, yet it’s pretty unpopular. I can see windows 8 helping out, but I don’t think it will be the future.

Also you use your slate to check SMs?

The desktop is not even close to being replaced, and I can see how people who want dedicated desktop machines will be annoyed by what windows 8 is trying to force on them.

  7. I think the air changed alot when it matured, i dont see why the the slate 2.0 doesnt have the same the chance if it blends great hardware with great software. The points is anything not apple gets thrown under the bus far too quickly and it gets under my skin i guess.

  8. If you’re signed into Chrome on the desktop and android, you don’t even need to use chrome to phone, just turn on sync and it does it all automatically and you can pull up tabs from either device on the other at anytime without clicking any buttons

  9. Will kinda sounds like a Windows user who is experiencing a Mac for the first time. “I can’t find anything! I can’t figure out how to turn it off! Things are happening and I don’t know why!”

  10. Gary Sinise wasn’t stuck on Apollo 13, he had to stay on Earth. You are literally worse than Hitler, Will.

  11. I feel like people talking like Windows 8 is just 40 bucks are being very disingenuous. It’s 40 bucks only if you own a legitimate version of Windows 7. And every time you want to format your PC, you have to install Windows 7 first; and upgrade versions of OSes always run a bit worse than the pure install versions in my experience.

edit: But it’s not like Win8 will do anything other than crash and burn HARD to begin with.

  12. Dairy and fish doesn’t mix well? Tell that to the salmon fettuccine alfredo I had two weeks ago.

Someone doesn’t know how Windows 8 works.

Someone else doesn’t know how to respond to something directly, and instead uses passive aggression which gets both parties nowhere.

What? That makes no sense. Runs worse? Dude, I was maybe willing to listen to you until you said that. That is ludicrous. Second of all, in my experience, even upgrade copies will install freshly. I STILL have an XP Upgrade disc and that thing will install anywhere, anyhow.

Also, we have no idea how much Windows 8 is going to cost, and Windows 7 has been around long enough and anyone who cares will already have it, so most will be upgrading. Even a purely new copy of Windows 8 won’t be that much in the long run, if it follows a similar upgrade to full price ratio to previous editions of Windows.

also, Someone is too blind to see that directly responding to someone is in fact, directly responding to someone. It’s not like your name was right there or anything. Oh wait.

  14. Yes worse. A fresh install of XP always ran better than an upgraded Windows 98, especially if it’s been used before applying the upgrade, any time I’ve done one.

Secondly, learn the difference between “something” and “someone.”
