I wonder what they’re going to be talking about on the podcast.
Apple has been telling developers that they shouldn’t hardcode to display sizes since the Retina Display first came out. Sure, they didn’t specifically say “The new phone will be 1136 x 640”, but they did have sessions detailing the preferred way to pull the visible window size, and you can adjust your UI as appropriate.
EDIT – Also, you can launch other applications from your app if the other app has a URL schema. Google already does this with their Chrome app, https://developers.google.com/chrome/mobile/docs/ios-links
Almost surprised they didn’t bring up the fact that the iPhone 5 doesn’t have a dedicated camera button. I think it’s complete bull shit that it doesn’t, especially given the increased space on the side.

Normal people don’t use GPS on a daily basis. Hell probably not even on a weekly basis. How does that even come close to comparing that to a smartphone camera? First off, people use the camera on their cellphone on a daily basis. This is a fact. Hell, earlier in the podcast Norm somewhat jokingly said that everyone should get a dedicated camera, but then someone said normal people don’t do that. Secondly, Nokia’s camera/lens technology could potentially be innovative. So no shit Sherlock they’re going to spend time talking about it.
I’d like to know what fantasy world Will is living in.
I actually know a lot of people, my mother included, who use the fuck out of GPS on a regular, pretty much daily basis. When I showed my mom how much better the GPS on my WP7 device was than on her iPhone, she was pretty impressed.

I think the apps problem on Windows Phone is amplified by the app crazy mania that as to slowdown at some point. I’m a recent IPhone owner so I have been installing lot’s of apps to decide what I want on the phone but one thing is already clear I don’t want every site that I visit to ask if want to install an app to see their site, just build o good mobile site don’t want 500 apps on my phone one for each site. CPU intensive tasks like games or apps that take advantage of hardware like tracking sure give me an app for that. Services that I use many times sure I want app for that, but also give me a good mobile site that way if I only use that service a few times I don’t want to install the app and then uninstall it. I think the Uber case mentioned is good example I don’t live in a area that as access to Uber but if in a trip I happen to be in a city that has the service when can’t I just go to there mobile site use the service once and be done do I have to install an app and then delete it? If I used the service multiple times then yes install the app if not a site is just fine. Desktop apps declined because of all the great things the web can provide on the browser itself, I hope the smartphone app mania is only temporary and we can continue to rely more on the open web even in mobile platforms.

Wow, iOS 6. I feel like I’m really far out of the loop now, since I’m still on a first gen iPod Touch with 3.1.3 jailbroken.
I can’t say he’s a 100% wrong, but I specifically remember the Kindle Keyboard blocking the web-browser on 3G. I remember that it would pop up and say that you needed to connect to WiFi.
Because if they talked about all the rumors the podcast would be even longer than it already is and all the people complaining about how all they talk about are apple products would bitch even more. Yeah it’s great to talk about NFC and screen size but they’ve done that without mentioning iphone rumors.
As for the simultaneous voice and phone thing, the crew has always talked about their tech experiences and from that POV. They’re not being objective because it’s an opinionated podcast. They and all the other (former) Whiskey Media sites have always been that way.
Unfortunately your card doesn’t need to be skimmed physically in order to be stolen and sold on the black market. Fortunately, there is a maximum liability of $50 (in most cases, but that doesn’t apply to debit cards, those are dangerous).

I started my unlimited data plan with Verizon when I got my Palm Pre Plus in 2010. Finding out that I was grandfathered in, is why I updated to the subsidize Galaxy Nexus in February (and the reason why I stayed with Verizon).
Normally I don’t go over 20GB but this summer was a record for me in terms of data usage:
June 30th – July 31st
Total data usage: 40.20GB
As you can see I definitely take advantage of my unlimited data from Verizon.
If they want me to purchase my next phone at full price and they will still honor my unlimited data – I will continue to stay with Verizon (I see no reason why to leave; unless Google gets a nation cell service)
