The only reason to take away the headphone jack is to be able to sell another $40 stupid adaptor. Won’t buy that phone ever. Very lonely with the CV1 as none of my friends has the chance to get one in the next two month although they ordered +15-49 minutes after pre order start. Shipping seems to be off to very slow start processing orders that came in about -6 to +3 minutes of the original start time as of today for the next 1 to 3 weeks. Shit storm on the horizon. Yes, they are following shipment notifications by the order minute on reddit.
We had the same problem in Bangkok. We lucked out because they didn’t take us to any ATM’s to get their currency. Every time we got off the bus, there was a group of locals trying to sell us things. At the end of the tour was a jewelry factory. Where a lot of diamonds were shaped and set into the jewelry. Outside of the gift shop portion was finally the ATM. We were wise to their plans by this point. Because they had a schedule to keep, they missed out on a LOT of gullible Americans.
never seen a squaty potty in my life. Poland is kind of eastern europe I guess?
Being from Hong Kong, very much enjoyed hearing about your adventures here.
Moore’s law has nothing to do why intel changing the way they iterate on technology
it has more to do that there is no more competition.
AMD is now so far behind with their x86/x64 products that there is no intensive for intel to make anything faster.
so be prepared for intel go back to what they were doing before the core 2 duo days
where you pay extra on the new products, that are only marginally better than last model at best.
meant to say incentive instead of intensive…. guess thats what i get for commenting with auto-correct on =/
Hi Norm, do you guys have checked out the network traffic going to Facebook domain (fbcdn) even after quitting Home client? I saw substantial traffic in the beginning after setting CV1 up felt like the entire startup disc was pilfered for usable data. OVRServer_x64.exe and OVRServiceLauncher.exe are always on and send data even if oculus is not being used. Maybe telling people how to manually block this might be appreciated as this is Facebook we are talking about. I have a dedicated game PC that not even has email on it but still the oculus privacy agreement allows for free data collection on all and everything.
I think you guys are underselling the Oculus Rift shipping delays. Here we are four days after “launch” and they’ve only shipped Rifts up to the first minute of preorders. It seems like something went wrong, either with logistics or payment processing.
Excellent podcast, you guys!

The editor won’t let me post them here, sorry.
Cottonelle commercial we got here as a joke in the 90’s, even if you don’t understand it, watch the end! kittens instead of puppies that Will was referring about.

Is that a Black Seris Tie Fighter in the foreground?
Re: DBox – Sorry can’t agree that their fun. Maybe I had a bad experience, but I had high hopes and turned it off less than 20 minutes in, was the experience equivalent of sitting in front of an annoying 10 year old who would NOT quit kicking your seat back.
The idea of “Buddha Kaiju” gives a whole new perspective on the movie “Journey to the West”.
16:55 is the best segue ever.
google services: well, i never understood why i should be using gmail etc., but everyone’s mileage may differ. not having access to youtube affects everyone. but why on earth would you use yahoo, bing, etcetera as a substitute for google search, when you could have had better search with duckduckgo all along?
squat toilets: in europe, you might find public ones when you’re close to the mediterranean (southern france, greece, and the like). other than that, nope. but what i’m curious about: don’t you have these little indicators that go from white to red when someone locks a stall door? you’re pulling our legs with that watching for feet thing, right?
audi: isn’t pronounced awdi but owdi.
vr controllers: i might be in a minority here, but i don’t have much interest beyond kb/m with a headset on. my trust in naturalistic emulation as a solution for interfacing is fairly low. it works for joysticks/hotas and steering wheels because those are very limited complexity inputs, but for something as complex as general hand use, i’d bet my money on a solution with a higher degree of abstraction from the act itself.
No, most public WCs in the US have doors that don’t go all the way to the ceiling and floor.
Couple notes. Basically every Tesla store had > 200 people long lines. A lot of the big ones like Bellevue, Seattle, etc. all had much bigger lines. All of the safety based self driving car stuff will be standard, but the full autopilot is an option to turn on. And Elon has now stated the average model will be 42k before tax credit. Though if you didn’t pre-order already you are unlikely to get the full $7500 credit. Because by the time you get it, they will have sold 250k vehicles in the US.
So much VR talk… I’m all for Will succeeding with his new company, but I hope they stop talking about it so much on the podcast once the Vive and PS VR are out. I’m probably in the minority, but I like it when they talk about all the other tech news going on, and it REALLY bums me out that the most important segment in this podcast–what you’ve been testing–is only a couple minutes long with them just telling us to go watch videos.
I love the Giant Bombcast because at least half the podcast is them talking about what they’ve been playing.
Alright.where can I register a formal complaint? You really have to get better about having this show put up at a regular time Thursday mornings. Where’s this week’s??? Come on guys. Be professional. Be on time and consistent . 😉
Are we getting a podcast this week????
