Podcast - This Is Only a Test

Episode 4 – Las Vegas Follies – 3/26/2010

It’s CTIA week, so there’s a lot of talk about cellphones, MIDs, and tablets. This week, Norm and Will talk about the Sprint/HTC 4G Android phone, the Joo Joo, Samsung’s latest Android phone, Windows 7 Phone, Netflix on the Wii, America’s Next Top Model, South Park, Adobe’s upcoming CS5 suite, Nintendo’s 3Ds, Microsoft’s Project Natal, and the first leaked iPad apps.

  1. I realize it’s a lot of work, but what are the chances of the podcast getting an index of the shows time line so we know what sections talk about what? You’re podcast are usualy around the forty five min mark so it shouldnt be as hard to do as say the bombcast that is almost always in the two hour plus range. The only reason i bringit up is that since you’re site is going to be covering such a wide section of topics it would only make sense that not everyone would like everything, or only want to hear about specific topics.

Anyway, just a suggestion if it is at all possible. Downloading it now.

EDIT: Did anyone else have problems with the sound popping and cracking constantly?

  2. Im not getting any sound issues either, however that topic change music is slightly annoying. Apart from that great show guys.

  3. Yes, but for this situation specifically the first 20-30 min of the show is nothing but cell phone talk, which I’m sure I’m not the only person on the site who has no interest in it. I would like to be able to just skip over those parts and listen to when they start to talk about the stuff i want to hear about instead of needing to try and stay awake as they talk about cell phones for twenty minuets.

I know it says right there in the notes what they are talking about, but it’s just a pain in the ass to keep skipping around trying to find when they start talking about stuff i want to hear. Every time i have tried to do this i always ended up in the middle of conversation or lost and not knowing when one conversation ends and another begins.

It just seems like something they could very easily do while editing, seeing as how they need to edit in those sound effects when they change topics, and mark down in note pad when a change of topic happens. I could see it being a lot of work on say the bombcast since it’s so long, but on something as short as this i wouldn’t think it would be all that difficult to do.

  4. I know, I know. I just have never once in my life needed a phone for anything but to order a pizza, so i have no interest in anything to do with them, and I’m a PC guy so i don’t care about anything to do with apple.

I just use cell phones as an example of what i don’t want out of the site personally, just like I’m sure others care as little about PC coverage as i do about cell phone coverage. The point i keep trying to bring up, that i think is always being over looked, is that when you have a site and a podcast that covers such a wide area of topics not everyone is going to want to listen to everything you have to talk about. For me at the moment that topic is cell phones and apple products, but in the future when you guys have a month or two where all you talk about is PC products you will have all the mac fans screaming about how they don’t like the podcast as much as they used to because they have to keep listening to all this PC coverage when all they want to hear is the mac stuff. If each one of the topics was only a few minuets in length it wouldn’t be such a big deal, but when you guys talk about the same topic for over ten to fifteen minuets some people are going to want to skip over it but cant. The problem is that when you try to skip ahead while listening to it, it’s very easy to get lost and skip over whole conversations that you wanted to listen to. For me those topics are cell phones and macs, and for other people it will be other things.

I’m just trying to help you guys with something that i personally believe will be a problem that might, in the long run, keep more people from enjoying you’re podcast. As the site grows in size and you get a larger audience you’re demographic will also become more diverse and varied. So when this happens if you guys continue to mainly focus on one or two topics during the podcasts you will be alienating whole sections of you’re fan base, and that is what i think might hurt you guys in the long run.

That’s all i have been trying to say. I’m not trying to used tested as a staging grounds for my one man crusade against apple and cel-phones, as it seems you have been lead to believe, I’m just trying to help with something that i think might hold the site back in the long run.

  5. I’m not sure who it was that said they would replace their iPhone with an iPad because they had invested in plenty of Apps, but they could also just switch to the iTouch couldn’t they? I know he’s just looking for an excuse to get the iPad though 🙂
