  1. Man does the NGP look good; though I think I’m done with portable consoles all together.

Edit: Just finished; speaker speak = happy face.

  2. ” The Gerstmannator! Should be a great podcast. Go Tested! “

Jeffrey in the flesh? Impossible! I look forward to this with great zeal!

  3. I think it’s odd that they don’t consider where a lot of the “casual” mobile gaming is going: to mobile phones. I’d honestly MUCH rather have casual games go to phones, which a lot of people have, rather than to dedicated gaming hardware. I honestly think making a handheld console that plays quirky casual games is kind of a mistake at this point. iPhone games seem to look better than 3DS games, and market saturation is crazy high for smart phones, and in the next several years we will probably be at the point where everyone has one. Sure, mobile games should be a bit different, maybe some faster pacing (no super crazy long levels) or something, but I spend a couple of hours on the bus to get to school, and enough time between classes to need something to do but not enough to go out and do shit. I really think this is being geared towards GAMERS who want to play GAMES but they have a lot of time where they can’t really do anything. Casual games can stay with phones and the 3DS, but I think their is certainly room for a real gaming platform on the go, especially if they can give you GOOD games. The PSP games left a lot to be desired because the controls and power of the system just failed to deliver. With dual analogs and a great screen and power behind it, they can deliver games that are console quality and play comparably too. Personally, I’m excited to pick up a cheap PSP2 when the market is saturated when my 4 years are up. If I wasn’t shipping for basic around the time of release, I’d probably pick one up right away. Casual games have never really grasped me, and I’m sure there are plenty of gamers like me who want to GAME on the move, rather than PLAY. If that makes sense.

  4. Re: Parallel universes, it looks like someone hasn’t made it to chapter 4 of How to Teach Physics to Your Dog or you’d be able to easily argue with Norm about his notions of mentally navigating parallel universes.  Even if the interpretation of quantum interactions used by that theory holds true (not that it needs to – we know the inputs and the results, we’re just unsure of the exact thing that happens at the moment when a measurement of a quantum particle is taken), it’s completely impossible to influence which universe you occupy in any way due to the inherent randomness of quantum mechanics.

re: Impossible vastness of the universe, take a look at the Hubble Ultra Deep Field – this tiny, tiny portion of the sky (one thirteen-millionth of the total area of the sky) contains thousands of galaxies, each containing hundreds of billions of stars, each possibly orbited by half a dozen planets.  If we so much as make it out of our solar system in person before the human race obliterates itself, it will be a truly remarkable thing.

  5. Haha my grandparents did the Will Smith naming thing to him and his brother.

Jacques became Jean-Jacques and Francoise became Francois.

  6. Man, love double dipping gerstmann this week.

Wait, I mean…you know damn well what I meant.

    Another great podcast guys!

  7. I think Will and Jeff have made me decide on the name for my death metal band.

    That’s right, SANDY BRIDGE!

I read in a book that the Earth is only 31 years old and the rest of you are all robots programmed to simulate life around me.

So, what is it like having sex with robots?

  9. Sagan’s name is dropped two weeks in a row, I love this podcast.

Please keep the science discussions coming. They are mind-numbingly fantastic, and it had me thinking all day long.

  10. Response to Fout-takes:

Have you guys read “Feed” (or maybe it’s “The Feed”), it’s about that computer in the head thing, although it portrays it in a pretty negative fashion. I think it’s a young adults book.

  11. ok, here’s the thing with me. I played the hell out of my GBA and my DS.  I loved the convenience of being able to sit on the couch, lay down on the bed, long car trips, vacations. etc. made it fairly vital for me.

I would probably spend time on the 3ds or NGP the same way.  the one thing I don’t like about consoles is that the way my house is set up, it’s not the most comfortable of endeavors and it’s not something I can do for 30 minutes before school or work.

bear in mind that I do not have a smart phone.

  12.   at the end of the podcast you guys are almost shadowing the futurama episode “Attack of the Killer App” with the whole checking the net doing random stuff with your brain/eye.  i loved it.

  13. Interesting how you guys went from talking about how you will never play a handheld for more than an hour because it would “cripple” you, to complaining about how the battery life won’t be more than 5 hours and you can’t play more than a few levels in a sitting.

  14.  If you can’t handle a joke, then maybe you should be taking a long hard look at yourself, and not those who work at or are affiliated with Whiskey Media.
