Podcast - This Is Only a Test

Episode 81 – So, We Went to Pax – 8/30/2011

On this week’s show, Norm answers an unanswerable question, Gary is afraid of ducks, and Will talks really really fast. All that, plus what we tested at PAX and another episode of fake outtakes. This show is dedicated to Theros the Enforcer and @Rufo, without whom it wouldn’t exist. Enjoy!

  1. Don’t sweat it Will, I personally prefer to have it an audio podcast so I can listen to it on my walk tomorrow. I would listen to it right now but I’m already half-way into the newest bombcast.

  2. I love Stigisms so freaking much. Sometimes I wish I was British so I would know why the topical ones are funny.

  3. Holding for video…Edit: This is already gruesome

do you think they have the budget for video?

They don’t even have a wiki!

  4. Is this going to replaced are normally scheduled This is only a test, or is this in addition to?

Can’t wait to consume this content.

  5. I really wish I’d been there for the panel. Down side to living on the other side of the planet and working for minimum wage I suppose.

On the plus side I can listen to this and play some Starcraft 2 so there’s that.

  6. I almost did a spit take when Will brought up guys going around country screwing old people.

    FFS: Tight Pants. X-Files.

  7. What it is yall!

Went to the Live podcast at PAX and it was a lot of fun. My wife came with me and she went from “Sure I’ll go with you” to “these guys are fun” to “So I can have that on my iPod for free?” (she never got any podcasts before)

    A few things:

-People were laughing in the waiting line when Will tweeted, where’s Whitta?

-It was also funny to see Will jump around the corner to confirm the line kept going.

-It would have been fun to see Norm’s screen on the projector, I always wonder what he surf for during the podcast.

I also want to share something.

It was weird meeting WNG in person. I don’t know if it’s because i’m old and remember a time before the internet when we had no “access” to the people we saw on tv and stuff, to but with Twitter and Google+ and the podcast we know a lot about these guys and we get a chance to interact more so it sometimes feel like a two way interaction. Anyway, when I walked up I thought “Oh I should introduce my wife to Gary”, then I was thinking wait these people have no clue who the fuck I am :).

You wanna say stuff like “I hope Gina is feeling better” or “good job on your weight loss Gary”, etc. All I ended up doing was a very fan thing and ask for Gary to sign my “Book of Eli” movie (Thanks!)

Anyway I think we live in weird times, all this stuff really redefined the interaction we have with people and it’s confusing for old dudes who don’t have 2000 “friends” on Facebook 🙂

  8. It’s weird to listen to the podcast with the live audience laugh track!

Great show all around, many fun moments. The similarity between the panel and the usual podcast was more so than with the Bombcast (they tend to get way wackier at panels compared to regular Bombcast, but that’s OK too). I wish i could have been there.

    Next year:

    1. Do video.
    2. Have Ana on the panel.
  9. iTunes still isn’t updating with this new episode, hoping it’s all sorted out tonight when I’ll have time to listen. Regardless looking forward to listening to the panel via iPod or straight from the page.

Edit: and just after I make this post the podcast begins to download through iTunes for me. Thanks top men!

  10. RSS issue is fixed. If you’re subscribed in iTunes, the podcast should show up now.

will there be a podcast this week?

  11. I absolutely loved this show; unique and enjoyable to have live audience reaction to the your opinions & jokes. This should definitely happen again at next year’s PAX. I will say that it would’ve been nice to hear Norm chime in a little more.

Also, the “watching old people get fucked” line was classic.

  12.

Okay I listen to this in the car (using the Sync that I wrote in about) so I didn’t get the name of those card games you’re playing.  Especially ones that might have iOS versions (Since I have no one to play with. 🙁 ).  I know about ticket to ride, what other ones are there that you might suggest?

  13. Hey guys, at least you’re not balding at 18.

Was that supposed to be a dig at me?

    Dig at myself.

Oh, good because I was going to point out that I’m 23.

    lol

  15. A dozen duck sized horses. A horse sized duck would freak me the fuck out.

I think the podcast should have been called Horse sized duck 🙂

  16. Will sounded SO nervous. More ramblely than usual!

Also, you guys missed the obvious question to the guy who asked Nokia/WP7 vs iPhone: Why did he want to leave android?

  17. Bit late to the thread, but re: handheld vs smartphone for commuting, one of the big reasons that people use a dedicated handheld is because they dont want to kill the battery on their phone before they arrive at the office/meeting/wherever.  Battery life will improve as time goes by, but so will public transport.  I work on the railway, and there has been an increasing trend on suburban and intercity trains to equip passengers seats with power points and even free WiFi is starting to creep in.  I dont fly, but surely this will extend to airplanes every time an airline buys new planes or refurbishes their current fleet?
If passengers are using a smartphone or a laptop or a tablet for entertainment on their journey then their carrier will provide for them if they want to remain competitive in the market.  It is not going to change overnight of course, but it is happening and will continue to happen.

  18. Where in my statement was I wrong again?

I simply misread it. I assumed “shit” was referring to the previous sentence, as in “(That) shit will you kill you”. But you were, in fact, referring to actual shit. My mistake.

This is the best conversation ever.

  19. Great first panel, guys–was very entertaining. Although, those few audience questions about “what TV/phone should I upgrade to?” were pretty unfortunate, and not at all good panel questions in my opinion.

  20. Will may give Gary shit for yapping, but that man knows how to make a podcast flow comedically. He could have brought flavour to the Bombcast which seemed to be struggling this time around. Great show guys!

  21. ugh i’ve been waiting for ages for the video version of this, only just decided to read the comments

    no video!?

    ( 🙁 🙁
