Episode 95 – Dire Straits Hate – 12/08/2011

On this week’s episode, Will admits owning a fake tree, Gary fondles a Lumia, and Norm talks hair care. All that, plus the latest on Android lag, the real problems with iOS, Firefox’s problems, Kindle Fire usability issues, and another edition of fake outtakes. Enjoy!

  1. Gary said somewhere else that Ana was supposed to be on this episode and it was going to be the final WANGcast, but it didn’t work out. So sad! 🙁

I have it on good authority that the fine folks over at wangcast.com are currently trying to get drunk on spiked mexican coke while quietly sobbing in a corner.

  2. Holy crap! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Gary Whitta just declared war on the nerd baller community. I do believe we’re going to have to boycott the podcast until Gary admits that Starcraft 2 is a sport. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  3. Buddy, at least give props to Reddit for that McHotDog factoid

EDIT: Damn it, Norm – also the thing about oversized Amazon BF3 packaging

  4. Not sure if the comments were related, but when norm said peter parker is more of a leica person and then said he’ll use a cheap camera, I did a little spit-take.

  5. I am one hundred percent behind you, Gary, with the e-sports argument.

But seriously guys, start eating before you record these things. Food talk is fun, but you guys go crazy with pronouncing your desires.

  6. I’m kind of surprised how happy everyone on the podcast was with Chrome. The appalling lack of customization options make it a complete non-starter for me.

  7. I was kinda bummed that Gary didn’t get to talk about Herman Cain. I know that i’m probably in the minority here, but i think you should do the politics talk once in a while, just to get it out. Just do it in fake outtakes and don’t let it bleed into the actual podcast.

On the topic of watches, i have this one:

It’s called Rosendahl Watch II. I really love the minimal design. It displays the time, and if you hit the button it will show the date, and that’s about all it does. For anything more sophisticated i prefer the phone anyways, like alarms and whatnot. I still like having a watch, because sometimes it take too long to pull out the phone just to check the time, while the watch is always right there when you need it.

  8. agree completely; every man needs a watch. I freak out every time I have have to go a day without one, still check my wrist once an hour. Maybe it’s my engineer brain (as my wife calls it) but checking the time on my phone is horribly inefficient and wastes so much time compared to a wrist watch.

And none of these so-called “geek” watches with stupid gimmicks. A high quality, rugged Swiss watch. There’s plenty to nerd out over; titanium, sapphire glass, 100 m water resistance. I paid $500 for my watch (Certina) but after 8 years it has never stopped and not a scratch in the glass. Expect to have this for many more years.

  9. I would like to see a political podcast from you guys. Even if it’s a bi monthly or monthly thing. That should be fun.

  10. I’d like to get a nice watch at some point in the near future, but every time I take a look at makes and models I start getting overwhelmed.

  11. Like the idea of a political podcast but I imagine it is the higher ups saying stay away from politics on the main site? You will need someone from the Right or at least Center Right as I gather you are all pretty Left in your leanings so it would be less of a discussion, more preaching.

There seemed to be a lot of negative comments made about Apple this week which was a huge change from normal, cool aid supply running out?

    Great podcast!

  12. RE: Christmas in Star Trek

The only appearance of Christmas I can remember was Picard’s Nexus fantasy in Star Trek: Generations.

  13. I’m sorry but i find the anti-religious vibes coming from the podcast kind of jarring. If I wanted to listen to the atheists ‘r us podcast I’d have subscribed to that.

I’m sure there’s plenty of outlets that you can find to match your tastes.
