Minor nitpick: the Constitution doesn’t say anything about the government funding the “useful arts.” The clause Gary was referring to was probably Article I, Section 8: It gives Congress the power “To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries”

    That simply authorizes Congress to enact copyright and patent laws. There’s nothing about funding there.

    Not that I’m saying we shouldn’t fund NPR. I love NPR.

  3. I really enjoyed the business talk at the top of the show. I feel that it is a very complex and troubling issue that no simple solution exists for, and it has too often been broken down as if it is by mainstream media coverage.

  4. I have a 32GB iphone 4 and all of the music on there is lossless. I have to swap out albums every week or two, but there is still enough music for me to listen to while driving to work all week and listening while I work. I’d rather have the hassle of swapping out tracks than having all of my music in shit quality. I also tend to listen to albums I like repeatedly throughout the day.

    Yeah I’d be interested in that too. Great show as always. You guys are also tempting me to buy some Lego kits even though they are so expensive, in my opinion anyway.

  7. You can get excel in separate windows, you just have to start a new session of excel (i.e. click the shortcut, not a doc). You’ll only get read rights to the personal macro book, but you can now have a spreadsheet on each monitor. Bit of a pain and I wish they’d make it easier.

    Google docs spreadsheets are pain to use. May be because I’m used to working so quickly in Excel, but it just feels cumbersome and sluggish. I honestly don’t see how you can use any google doc for actual work.

    I use open source software as much as I can, but I think I’ll still continue to buy office (and Windows I guess)

  8. While google docs is really neat and convenient for sharing, the spreadsheet and presentation apps are terrible replacements for excel and powerpoint.

  9. I read it when I was 10 and I don’t really think it was that hard to read, or at least I don’t remember it as being hard to read.

  10. Numpads are fucking great. I can’t stand using a keyboard without it. For number entry it’s much more efficient for me. I also like having it there to bind keys for games or other things.

    EDIT: I would sacrifice myself for the internet, but wouldn’t for world hunger or preventing war.

  11. I don’t know why WIll have a problem reviewing big powerful laptops when they have plenty of quicklooks on products that are not aimed for normal consumers.
