  1. Webby just replied to your comment:

What is the best mp3 player, then? My iPod’s been acting up for a while now and I’m in the market for a new one. (Bear in mind I’m in the UK, so Zune is not an option.) “

You can’t buy Zunes over here? :S Or do you mean the because of the price.

  2. The tablets and devices out in the wild thing is an interesting topic. I work in public transport, specifically on a busy commuter railway between London and Birmingham and when it is time to go to my train then it is usually full of passengers. I tend to look in through the windows, just to be nosy really and it is interesting to see what people are using. The trains have power outlets at every seat and free WiFi so passengers are encouraged to use devices and there are clear trends to what people use. Windows laptops dominate, but there are also loads of Macbooks (both pro and air) and iPads. Just guessing I would say there are more Android phones than iPhones, but it might be 50/50. There are quite a lot of Kindles, the 4th gen seems especially popular but Android tablets are rarer than rocking horse shit. I do look quite often too, two or three times a day, five days a week. Android tablets hardly seem to have sold at all here in the UK, or if they do then people dont really go outside with them.

Also some Android musings. I have had ICS on my Nexus S since before Christmas. There has been no over the air update, but the Nexus S update is out there for people who know how to use a search engine. My phone isnt rooted, though the bootloader is unlocked by default, and the recent update to mobile Chrome didnt stop mobile Chrome from working like it seems to have done for the people with Cyanogen installed.

Finally I do like the Google + app for Android. Mostly because of the instant photo upload feature. My photos get uploaded to a private album on Google + whenever I connect to WiFi, which is nice as it is a free backup I dont have to remember to stay on top of. I still dont use Google + very often though! It’s a shame, because I like it as a website, it just doesnt have that critical mass of interested and active users and it probably never will. I’m glad it exists though.

  3. Good podcast!

I think the guy that said that Casa Loma was the only full sized castle in North America is wrong. Château Frontenac in Québec City looks like a pretty full sized castle to me. It has even has “Château” in the name.

EDIT : I did some research. Château Frontenac isn’t considered a castle even thought it has “Château” in the name. It’s pretty awesome building either way.

  4. Gary, how can you watch that huhhhhhhhhh

But seriously, I’m sorry, I love you Gary but Christ almighty, The Big Bang Theory, really?

I do this because I want to help you.

The reason The Big Bang Theory panels are filled at Comic-Con is because there are two audiences for this show. A. the common man who likes to laugh at nerds and doesn’t understand any of this video game/physics “mumbo jumbo.” B. the nerds who say “hey, those guys are just like me” and just want to be pandered to and clap when they see things they like on a TV show.

  5. As far as the rage on the forums over Bricked, I think MOST of it is pretty tongue in cheek. There are definitely a few taking it a bit too serious but there always will be.

But Will, you are a cheater and you know it.

  6. I think a castle has to have actually been used as a castle to count. If it is only a 150 year old hotel which vaguely resembles a castle then I dont think you can include it, because then you are not very far from saying that the pink plastic & fibreglass building at Disney World is a castle. I dont even think Casa Loma is a castle really. It’s more of a stately home by the look of things.

The Tower of London is a castle. The Queen’s home at Windsor Castle is a (bloody impressive) castle. Warwick Castle is a Castle (I guess you can take the “clue is in the name” angle with a lot of them) but I think it has to have been used primarily as a fortified building to count. Being a thousand years old is handy too!

  7. “Hey, don’t watch Family Guy… I can’t tell you why, let South Park explain it for you.” Cmon now, Will. Above cheap jokes now, too? If it makes you laugh, it’s funny.

  8. Hehe! Awesome! “I’m not doing that.” Made my day. Gary is getting soft now that he is going to be a dad. That was actually one of the whimpier NHIE’s I heard on my geology field camp 😉

  9. Miss the live brick event… (by the way ETA when it will be up?) Did gary ever do his live commentary lol

  10. Chiming in about Big Bang Theory.

It takes about 37 hours to watch 106 episodes of that show (excluding commercials). You can very easily waste your life away watching junk. My reasoning is pretty simple minded, it has a laugh track. The show is dumb. There’s plenty of better stuff, so many more things you could be doing with your valuable time you have left to live. I’m a negative nancy hater, yes indeed.

Also I don’t own a TV. I’m a far superior being to you plebeians who have TVs.

  11. A little late maybe, but in regards to Alien/Aliens: The original was a Ridley Scott film, not directed by Cameron. Maybe I missed him being mentioned, but I thought Scott should get some credit as well.

  12. What exactly is he supposed to provide a counter-argument to? The need for a counter-argument suggests there exists an argument to counter. All you did was state a claim with no supporting evidence nor any argumentation. It’s truly ironic that someone mocking a show about scientists as anti intellectual doesn’t appear to know what constitutes a logical argument.

  13. ….Gary moved to Mac because a BETA UNFINISHED PRODUCT THAT CLEARLY SAID IT WOULD SCREW THINGS UP POTENTIALLY? *sigh* You’d think someone so into the industry would know better than to allow a BETA OS bricking a rig to sour them completely on the finished non-crashy OS.

  14. Any doubts about Will being the resident nonchalant App fanboy were laid to rest when he DEFENDED using the iPad at home as a primary device! Hehehe. Now I see why we have so many pro Apple stories and extra coverage on Tested, it’s not Gary, its WILL! LOL, how much are they paying you?! ; )

Also whilst I’m here I think Gary should use an Android with a custom skin before completely writing them off. I actually really like my HTC Sense interface and it’s cool to have something that not everyone else uses. Much better the the Apple cage of apps.
