Podcast - This Is Only a Test

Episode 501 – How It All Began – 5/23/19

For our 501st episode, we’re joined by special guests Will and Gary, who started this podcast with us back in 2010. The five of us recount our favorite memories from the past nine years and reflect on the beginnings of Tested and what the worlds of technology, pop culture, and virtual reality looked like back then. Here’s to the next 500!

  1. The first episode I ever watched was the squirrel on the bird feeder broadcast from Will’s house.

    Instantly hooked.

I just downloaded and am now listening to episode #0 for the first time, btw.

  2. I noticed that you didn’t mention 3D printing at all in your look back. It’s not a big part of Tested now, but it has been another technology like VR that has grown enormously since Tested began

  3. yes, good point! if we had more time would’ve wanted to cover that in the tech segment, especially since will and i built the first few makerbots together as tested videos!

  4. LYW. Subscribed again. Would appreciate it if there was a “travel focus” to maximise both US and international locations. Favourite things, maybe?

  5. I really enjoyed the stories form the past. I have listened to all 500 episodes through the years. I look forward to listening to them every week. I started listening back in the when the majority of the gang was at Maximum PC and PC Gamer. Thank you.

  6. Always great to hear Gary and Will back on the podcast. Hearing them discuss Octoberkast with Gary reminded me about Space Rocks!

  7. Have I been listening that long? Far out I remember the iPhone 4 video and everything else… Jesus I’m old. How many hours do you think that is? Don’t tell me.

  8. Live broadcasts were a really novel concept on the internet 9 years ago. When I asked Will a question in chat before Episode 0 started recording and he said my name out loud, it was the coolest thing ever. I wish there was video of it because I don’t remember what I asked.

I also remember sending in an audio question. Those were a fun part of the podcast too.

As much as I complain about the state of Tested these days, I still absolutely love This Is Only A Test, and I still consider it to be the best part of Tested. Since my commute isn’t that long, I listen to the podcast in 10 minute bursts throughout the week, which means I’ve essentially been listening to the podcast almost every weekday for the last 9 years. I consider it to be a huge part of my life, and I thank you all for continuing it all these years. Thank you.

  9. I haven’t technically been listening SINCE the first episode, but i started back at episode 0 when i first started listening in 2014.
