This Old FX Shop: Miss Monster’s Masks
One of our favorite aritsts is Melita Curphy–aka Miss Monster–who sculpts beautiful figures and masks with a distinct techno-organic style. We’re thrilled to paint two of her masks on this episode of This Old FX Shop!

For those who are curious : http://www.missmonster.com/ Really cool stuff!
Also with the title of this series on Tested, I was expecting a bunch of guys with heavy New England / Mass / Connecticut accents looking at old monsters and going in and fixing them up, bringing them up to code 😀
RIGHT! i need to make a new logo.
don’t forget the Blue Grass music 😀 Wait… that was Home Time, wrong network…
Really glad to see Miss Monster’s stuff here. I really respect her way of metering out her creations too. 🙂
Her work is wonderful.
Norm should have done the drybrushing with either a cloth or sponge. Would have helped with the organic look and no brush strokes.
Oops
When you talk about wiping things down with alcohol… are you talking about isopropyl or denatured?
Also… Are these meant to be worn? If so it’s a shame you guys didn’t put them on at the end…
Great video. Very interesting. I especially liked the extra detail regarding dry brushing, it’s been mentioned in many other painting videos, but was nice to get some detailed information about the actual application
I would love some more information about the airbrush, how to adjust it etc, maybe an idea for a future Shop Tips episode.
I really want to paint some of these too! Looks like a lot of fun!
i know right? ever since they featured her for the first time, i fell in love with the otherworldly feel of her masks. so so good.
99% isopropyl, and they are a bit small for our heads.
we’ve done a bunch in past videos, search around a bit.
She’s one of my fave artist too!
These videos are the ones I love. I just picked up an Evil Ted Foam Helmet pattern at Long Beach Con. The cooper patina is a great idea for a paint job.
I love this series and the team of Norm and Frank. What is fun to watch is how Norm has jumped into a skill that was new to him. If you look at one of the earlier videos and compare it to this one, you can see how his skills have developed. Frank is an excelllent instructor/student of the craft.
Is there a possibility of seeing an episode where Frank and Adam paint together? It would be killer to see those two team up, especially with both of their vast amounts of knowledge. That would be a good episode.
