Fabricator and modelmaker Kayte Sabicer shows us a technique for making simulated wood flooring using simple gatorboard and shellac sealer! This is an effective technique she’s used many times in making miniature sets, and can be use for miniature displays. The finished effect is so cool!

Amazing! Thank you for sharing your expertise with us Kayte! So many project ideas coming to mind.
I’m so glad Kayte is a part of Tested now.
That’s a really cool technique. That would work really well to create cool tiles for Dungeons & Dragons.
*A me too! She’s amazing!
me three!
Really enjoying the Kayte Sabicer content, well done.
That was cool, Kayte is a great teacher.
This was awesome so informative. Looking forward to more tips of the trade!
Kayte is quickly becoming a new favorite up there with Sean for me. Awesome video and techinique.
That looks so amazing. So much so, I feel like there should be some random horizontal lines for seams of where one plank stops and another begins.
One of the main differences between regular foam-core board and Gatorboard is that Gatorboard is waterproof. I’d never even seen that stuff before working in a model shop. It’s pretty fantastic stuff (though pricey).
When you see the shellac soaking into the board it’s only the shellac that has dripped over the side filling in the open foam cells – not soaking into the surface.
Love content like this. Kayte is an excellent teacher. I work around A LOT of foamcore and I know what my mini projects will be now.
Can’t wait to use this technique and these videos with Kayte
are fantastic.
I’m just catching, but had to comment how cool this was.
