Adam Savage Tours Peter Jackson’s Movie Prop Collection!
Earlier this year, Adam Savage visited Peter Jackson in his cave–his world-class collection of props, costumes, and cinema artifacts that inspired him as a young filmmaker and continue to inspire him. Adam and Peter examine a prop you may recognize: the faceplate for the Hal 9000 computer from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Please let this be a series…
it’s part 1 of 3!
It seems those lenses go for $1500+ used. Wow.
And that dashes my plans for a HAL replica build. 🙂
I believe that 8mm Nikkor lens was meant to be used with the mirror locked up due to the protruding part.
Also: moar Adam Savage + Peter Jackson please!!!!
Only three parts? I hope we get to see more than three props…
Awesome! Looking forward to the others. There was some other interesting pieces in the background like that Ghostbusters Maquette of one of the Gatekeeper/Keymaster Gozer dogs.
Oooooooooh my god! You have no idea how happy this video makes me! Two of my favourite people on the planet geeking out about movies!
This is so exciting! Thank you so much guys!

Would love for Adam to talk with Peter about his WingNut Wings model production. Those kits are the gold standard for WW I aviation subjects.
Oh my! I can’t wait to see the rest!
This is so weird! For years now I have been watching the EE DVD appendices of Lord of The Rings and now the Hobbit, every evening for weeks around this time of the year, while I work on my projects, and more recently I’ve been doing the same with Tested.
So to watch Adam AND Peter Jackson together is so weird… like my computer jumbled my YouTube and my dvd player… Plus they discuss one of my absolute cult movies too. Completely geeking out here, I had a huge smile on my face watching this! Thank you!
Amazing collection! Probably could have used a different title or some kind of intro to the whole series or collection though.
You know you have a good collection when you have to use daleks for security.
I loved the part with Danica standing in the background, like she was a prop from a movie. I don’t think she intended to be in shot, and once she was, she didn’t know what to do. Awkward!
Wish we could see a longer video of more of his collection. I know he has a ton of dalek and other Doctor Who memorabilia. Only get to see one near the dinosaur (which is where id put one too.)
I also would love to see a longer video of more of his collection.
do a video about the AI stuff you showed in this video, would be cool since Adam worked on them.
ok so this is probably not where the panda costume is from but it reminded me of these commercials: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYz3sl0LEA4
looks like the head in the commercial is more cartoonish and round whereas peters panda is more realistic.
Oooooooooh what a tease! I was so disapointed when the video stopped but then read that it was only part one!
Adam and peter, the most sympathics!
Keep watching, the one on EBay has been on sale at that price for that price for years. There is another that is offered ever so often at $800. I paid less than that for one of mine that came with the viewfinder and I have bought them for rather less.
The lens is completely stock, That turret on the back is what stops it being used on anything other than a Nikon F1 Photomic. Later lenses are compatible with modern DSLRs.
It probably isn’t an original. That one is 88621 and the original we know the serial for was 89xxx.There might have been a spare but it seems more likely they moved the lens from one panel to another.
I was offered the set (minus the lens) for $15K in 2008 shortly before it was auctioned in 2009 – it went for $27K. So Jackson is off about it being ten years. It is authentic but probably not screen used. It isn’t quite the right size for any of the shots in the film. He probably got it from a dealer who added in the lens.
The original price of the lens was more than $2000 – in 1968 money. So the current prices are very good for what was the most advanced lens of its day.
